Lawyers please!
I am getting a divorce here. Our hearing is on the 13th. The thing is, I reverted to Islam, and the grounds I gave were the reversion. A Muslim woman cannot be married to a non-Muslim.
I would like a lawyer to tell me-will the divorce be legal when he says he refuses to be Muslim or is there a waiting period? We have been separated for months-since before I took the shahada.
Also, I understand that if he does not show up after being summoned twice, I am just given the divorce in any case. Is that true? And is it effective immediately?
I would like to not have another tax year involved in this marriage if at all possible.
Other than being divorced, are there any consequences to him for not showing up to a hearing that he has been summoned to attend? If he did not have to come to court, he would prefer it. I am just wanting to get this over with asap.
Thanks to any attorneys who have accurate information.
