Lack of national workforce attraction plan

It is already late for national authorities to put a serious plan for detailed methodology to attract and retain competant workforce for the major projects related to 2022. QL is full of requests regarding relocating to Qatar and seeking advice and guidance, I do not believe this is the best way to do it. A national plan which address why people are choosing not to come, an HR group from major organizations in Qatar should meet and come up with recommendations related to schooling, housing, pay scale etc. The way it is now that every company deals with its recruiting issues on its own, which ends with unintended competition on limited resources within the country.

Its not in the Quality of the locals but the quantity of highly skilled workers required to sustain the size and aspirations of Qatar.

Chairboy if people such as yourself put down the Qataris and question their work ethic, then that will demotivate them and give you the chance to go 'see I told you they were all useless and they need us expats'

No one said we do not need the expats, they provide a valuable service but don't margalise the locals. We need a stake in our society too. The attitude of laughing at us will result in a backlash eventually.

Let's face it, many who come here either taking a major risk with their career, misinformed, or desperate. I am aware of many who retuned after a year, less if they have school age children, or did not cone after they received the offer. Doctors in UAE received a 60% raise and it is now hard to staff Al Wakra hospital with experienced workforce after about a year from official opening. The projects of 2022 are world level projects, I hope one makes a wake-up call soon.

Now THAT is GENUINELY funny mozai - thanks for that. Less said, the better.

The thread is a good one - a very meaningful one. The recent Careers fair which is aimed at the locals was as I understand from my own company an unmitigated failure - with attendance way down on previous years. Speaking as a HR professional who is in touch with the underlying issues associated with localisation, I think the OP's idea concerning HR departments from major companies has merit although it will no doubt be ridiculed by QL'ers.

cant wait for 2022, will it be a success or pure waste of investment, people in other countries still prefer dubai instead of Qatar, why do you think is that?
