How do I find a nanny I can trust? Any recommendations for Jan 2008 onwards?
By Catherineanne •
I will be moving to Qatar in January 2008. My husband and I have separated so I will be bringing my daughter with me - she will only be a little over 2. I will be working but some unpredictable hours. I've emailed all the nurseries to seek a place but I'll also need a nanny.
Any tips on finding one I can trust? Any recommendations?
Would people think that haivng a live in house-keeper as well as a nanny is a good idea - to help each other out and keep an eye on each other? It sound paranoid but I've read a few things on here that have made me suddenly panic.
Thanks.
I just arrived with my 3 angels ages 6, 10 and 13 (grade 1, Grade 5 and Grade 8) and join my husband who already stay in Qatar. I really suprised to find out that there is no opening registration for my daughters (we come in July cause in Indonesia, my children just pass the exam and get their report)for any school in Qatar. Moreover to find out that all school are very expensive (my husband company not cover for education).
Hope someone could give me solution to my problem. In Indonesia I was worked as Secretary in Hotel industry for 7 years and Health & Safety Equipment compnay for another 7 years. Facing this problem I might have to worked to solve money problem, but with the age almost 40, is there some company want to hired me?(in Indonesia for a new women employee the age should not more than 25.NEED YOUR HELP N SERVICE N IDEA.THANKS
Hi there!
You will find help for sure! I would recommed training the person on how you like things done, and also how you raise your child. Once you get here you are sure to meet many people who will direct you how to find someone.
Good Luck!
Hi Catherine,
There is a qualified Nurse who looks after kids and cooks and cleans. She is in Phillipines, I can recommend her but she is a nurse and aged 34-35. Let me know on my email [email protected].
You will have to provide for the ticket and visa. Visa will be a headache and the company you work for has to provide as you will be coming on a single status. All the same if you need just send a mail.

The question of a nanny is always difficult. However you can do some pre selection. Here is some info: (P.S I am not racist nor prejudiced however a mother with experience in nannies)
India - usually not intelligent and not too good in the cleaning department.English often poor
Phillipino - better in cleaning, talk a lot, usually want a lot of time off & have friends(boyfriends) which brings a whole different problem. English usually good, but want higher salary.
Indonesian - I have been lucky with them. Clean well, quite, do not want to go out, salary medium however not well educated and english maybe poor.
Thai, my favorite. Clean well, quite, medium salary and usually friendly. Like kids. Also most of them do massages!
English poor.
What you do is get a work permit for one of the nationalities you prefer, go to an agency and select from their list a nanny (get an older one who can cook, saw, has kids etc.) Bring her over. You pay this agency a fee & ticket. You then have a period to try out the maid. If you don't like her you can take her back to the agency. However discuss all these options with the agency first.
Good luck!

Eldertree nursery do a babysitting service. The girls were really good with both our children so we had no hesitation using them.
thats tough my dear.
no one can gaurantee anything, but i would advise you against having two help at home.
here you usually have the role of nanny and house-keeper rolled in one.nannies do the house work too.
moreover if you treat them nice, they will always be good to you.
trust is a tricky issue, you can get some lovely people to help you out and some not so, too.
once here you could try and contact an agency to help you locate a good nanny.
happy heart
