Hamad Pediatric Emergency Centre at Al Saad

My son had a fever last night. Been giving him the usual stuffs like paracetamol, the fever keep yo-yoing up and down. So today we decided to take him to see the doctor. Being a friday today, the company clinic that we normally go is closed. So we took him to Hamad Pediatric Emergency Centre at Al Saad road.

From registering, see the doctor, collected his prescription and pay the bill only took us about 20 minutes. The nurses were helpfull and the doctor who did the check up for my son was really friendly. The bill cost me QR 9 with the antibiotic.

So you guys make sure have your health card sorted for your kid/s. It cost you 100 QR for a year then you can use the government medical service. You never know when you going to need them, so worth to have it on standby. We been here for 6 yrs and only been to the place second time today.

Both visits were excellent.

"I'm not worried about emergencies"....

I'm pointing some people who have serious medical history, tracking down your medical files/records via health cards would make things easy for you and for the medical team. Kinda time consuming!

Good wasta, huh!

Its best advisable to have your health card w/ you when taking appointment @ HMC. Always carry along w/ you just in case of emergency.

I don't know why Apple but that didn't happen to us.

You dont need a health card to get appointment, your QID is enough to track down your records at HMC. But when you pay at the cashier, they will ask from you your health card, and w/o health card you will be charge w/ drugs & services as double/triple compare to normal fees.

By e46M3• 26 Jun 2007 01:27
e46M3

I know what you're saying but we got the appointment in the first place without a health card.

Because he already have a records at HMC w/ the same Doctor. Is the operation related to ENT case? if yes, that answer your doubts!

Because the Doctor who made the operation must see and follow up the patient post-operatively, to reassure his patients full recovery. At least w/in a week or two.

Believe it or not we went to the ENT specialist at Hamad Hospital without a health card. He's the same doctor who performed the operation.

Maybe because the kids were born here.

If its not an emergency case(e.i.mild illness), ER-dept at HMC wont accept you! and at Outpatient Dept HMC, you need appointment to see a Doctor, so you must go to Govt. Health Centers or you go to Private Clinics/Hospital if ready to bear the expenses.

This infos i gave can be useful for an average income families.

By the time you visit Health Centers, you still need to get a registry number from them. And it is only available in the morning.

You can apply at Rumaillah cashier and they only give you HMC number, check the card if its ready, it is w/o PHC(Public Health Center) registry number.

I'm not novita but you need a copy of the passport including the residence permit (or a copy of the Qatari ID), 2 photos, fill in the form and 100 Riyals per applicant.

I also know that you can (theoretically) do it online at the e-gov site but I don't know how they handle the photos.

Applications can be gotten from Hamad Hospital in the Outpatient department, Rumailah Hospital at the cashier or any of the health centers.

If my memory serves right, i have had terrible experiences with hmc. I remember my baby sis having ear infection and had to be rushed to al saad 24 hr hospital. The treatment and care was excellent. However, to my greatest annoyance i couldnt help but notice the receptionist commenting "miskeen" that too with a smirk on the face.Yeeeeeeesh...that was in 1995. More recently, during last summer,A doctor in the emergency unit of HMC wouldnt hear a thing that my dad had to say when he was admitted in early hours of morning (3am to be precise). He finds patients opinion funny. My dad tried explaining him that he felt a very sharp chest pain followed my a spell of troubled breathings. He really didnt want to hear about the breathing thing and insisted that it didnt happen and it probably was his mere imagination. Oh and then he returned to his collegues chatting about his medication and how the pharmacist was unwilling to issue him his medication..yadda yadda...We need to improve the outlook bottoms up. No amount of polish and decor can achieve what 1st world countries can offer.. Atleast not at this rate. Over here in 'Down under' i am glad that things are great, even if they are a shade or two behind in the polish and decorum area. Any racist remark, any negligence, and the next thing you know, ordinary civilians including but not limited to the tradesmen (skilled carpenters, bricklayers, plumbers etc) or even a person living under welfare program can sue the living soul off the offender.

i still like the medical infrastructure and every thing. HMC is well known for cardiac surgery etc. Then again there is a long way to go when it comes to attitude that people possess, its medieval...and....also very sad.

Good day & hope you are doing well. Alhamdulillah(by gods grace) your son must be ok by now.

I too have a kid same thing happend. What i traced out its throat infection that causes fever to be ups & downs, so here after always avoid cold drinks(pepsi is a big cause),swimming, staying in A/C immediately after sweating in the sun.

May god bless your family. Get well soon.

Last evening when i met my friend and their family the kid(6months)old was very active and tis evening again when i met them the little one was troubling her mother and was restless.

from last night kid has fever and sever cold may be due to humidity also.

Give more water to children during these days, avoid taking out exposed to humidity for a long time.

Yes, novi, he'll be fine. We had it so bad that our little one was in the end finishing a course of antibiotics and 3-6 days later needing another one.

We used to go to PEC at least once a month.

He'll be fine, once the Augmentin starts working he'll be back to his normal self.

And he's on paracetamol alone or with ibuprofen? 10-12 ml?

No, novita, the minimum is for 7 days. That's always been the case with us and usually it's 10 days because they want to make sure they kill the bacteria.

he had augmentin for 10 days. Don't you think it is a bit too long for the antibiotic, when i had bad throat the doctor in my husband's company clinic priscribed me with Augmention for 5 days.

What did they prescribe; Zinnat, Augmentin or Suprax?

We had an experience with a private clinic when our eldest was feverish for 10 days, specialist checked him, changed his antibiotic but no good. 5 am I took him to PEC and they figured it out immediately. He would've been at serious risk if we'd left him in private hands.

I know that my son had something wrong with his throat, my guess was he have viral infections (he been to lots of swimming party for the past 1 weeks). All he need is antibiotic ... The doctor there just confirmed my suspection ... i am not surprise when he told me the same.

@e4 :

Yes i trust the people there too.Why should i go to private hospital if in the end you got the same medicine, same diagnose just pay more $$$.

Afteraall ... thats what the health card for isn't it?

alhamdullilah novita.

I have my faith still in PEC of HMC.

the things is the doctors are pretty quick in their diagnosis and sometimes abrupt, so people think thay they dont know much, but in fact they are seeing similar cases the entire day and they are usually spot on in their diagnosis.the nurses are very good and efficient too.they take care.

hope sam feels better soon.

I'm glad you had a good experience there and hope your son gets better. Antibiotics can take 48-72 hours to really kick in.

We trust these guys at Emergency Pediatrics. They don't do it for profit.
