what is the average grocery budget here in Doha for the family of 5 people..3 kids and two adults...?serious answers only please..i always make my monthly budget and always spend more..
If you're looking at forecasting your next months expenses, take the higher months and use that as a benchmark for your next budget ;-)
What we did was made an excel sheet of all our monthly expenditures over a year, including our utility bills, but not our personal expenditures. That gave us a rough idea of how much we're spending on groceries, dining out, etc. on a monthly basis and on an average.
If need be I can share that sheet with you, lemme know!
It depends but we usually spend like 500 per week so it would be 2K a month. We're a family of five too, 3 adults, 2 kids. This is our budget since we usually eat out on weekends.
Colt45 it is not about affordability ,its about right budget..i am not saying i want to cut down the things and make a least budget..i just wanted to take an idea,,whether i am right or wrong..i dont mind spending money on my kids food items ..but ofcourse there is no limit to spend money...britexpat :)i know i am a good house wife u dont need to tell me...actually only a good house wife can think about budget...right;)
There is not much you can do about grocery bills, because it is not worth it.Cutting down on food spoils the mood most of the time.
Items like Broccoli,Steak, fresh chicken, organic food, etc create a hole in the purse.Learn to stretch the meat, fish, etc by making many items in one go.
Making a menu for the week can really make the grocery bill short and wastage low.
One of my friends used to buy exotic stuff like Broccoli, etc and lament about the bill later. She makes the family eat out atleast thrice a week after feeding them once or twice with healthy food..!
Look at the price of each item and take time to compare.Ask yourself whether you really need it repeatedly.Remember that the low priced products are usually "hidden" in the lower shelves and not usually kept at your eye level.
What you could do is cut down on other things like dresses, eating out,Electronics, etc.
And dont take the kids or husband along when you go grocery shopping :-)I have noticed that when hubby comes along I am relaxed about spending as he pays with his credit card.
If you plan to pay by cash, you will have a better control on your buying.
IS it that you can't afford it or you're just cribbing about the expenses? It's for you and your kids anyways, so it is only befitting you give them your best:-)
hmmm right i used to do my shopping from family food center then i switched to LULU..BUT NO DIFFERENCE..i have 3 kids and for their school lunch and 3rd one is a toddler so for him offcourse milk bread and other things like fruits ,veg, mutton, chicken cheese these r the basics..but minhajj as u said 2000 it is really impossible..i started from 2000 but couldnt control to spend more. than i started 2500 which is also getting not possible in the end i had to spend more...ahh now i am thinking maybe i am not a good house wife who cannot make a right budget for my family.or maybe here in Doha things r expensive..;((
Minhajj,,, you must be joking... 5 people on QR 2,000 per month... my weekly shopping bill comes to no less than QR800 so I think you must be living really really on basic things
Everyone's monthly grocery expenditure will differ because of the places we shop at. Someone shopping at Lulu will have a different budget in contrast to someone shopping at Megamart/ Shoprite.
Your expenses will always depend on the brand of products you buy.
All depends on what kind of livestyle you wanna live... you want to have nive things, fresh milk, juice, cereals, good vegetables such as brocolli, mushrooms and so on, then you gonna spend quite a bit. if you happy to have Khubuz and cheese spread with a cup of tea then you wont be spending much... al depends...

3 Adults 2 children 1 toddler 5000/month
I guess 2500 QR is decent for monthly expense
