Oh well....

The other morning I was driving home, at a roundabout a LC just came in front of me. I had to slam on the brake not to hit him..... I tooted the horn.....he stock his arm out of the window and asked me to stop.....I followed him and stopped....He came out, and guess what, je was a policeman.....he came to me and said: Driving licence....I said: Driving licence? What for?....He said: why you blasted your horn?...I said well you made a mistake so I just sounded my horn.....He said show me your driving licence.....I told him: Look I have a driving licence, but no way I will give it to you m8!.. If you don't like it call a police right now!.....I took my car number and as he was going towards his car, I called him and said to him: well, I just want to know your name (His name was displayed on his chest), Further, I told him: Look you made your point, I made mine too..... if you want to take this matter further, you can do so.... I have no problem!!

Anyhow to cut a long story short, after a bit of discussion, we shock hands and said good bye to eachother!

This happens to people who don't know any better...btw,firose,if the real CID approached your friend, they would first introduce themselves...in English, then show ID clearly which is in Arabic & English giving enough time for the person to verify they are authentic & are usually fairly polite & straightforward with no shouting/abusing etc...they leave that for the uniformed cops, these guys are a level above them & they wouldn't cheapen themselves by shouting/screaming,they don't need to...if you mess with them, they will call in the uniformed guys to deal with you & bring you in,that's how it works...pass this info. onto your friend...

This is more to do with expat fear of the govt agencies rather than exercise of their right.

We need to check credentials carefully and if you think the guy is fake use your cell to call the police ....

Your friend has the right to see his CID ID properly and in an appropriatte way . They have no delegation whatsoever to shout at civilians , but i guess your friend was fooled !

It is upsetting that so many people are in fear of the authorities here that they lose all sense when facing an issue like this.
