We are also to Doha From South Africa end of Dec and are looking for schools. I spoke to someone on the phone from DMBS and she was most helpful. We will be going for our test as soon as school reopens. I am astounded by all the negative comments about the schools there and makes one wonder if uprooting your kids and taking them to another country is really worth it. It is already a huge undertaking for them, so for them to be happy at a school is vital. Is anyone out there happy with DMBS? Im getting worried now.....

Totally agree with you Ivory_Chantel.

We submitted our applications for two of our children at DMBS for 2010 academic year.

We were frustrated and disappointed in the way our applications was treated by the Principal and the school enrollment administrator.

We eventaully withdrew our childens applications after paying the application fees.

Some of our problems were:

1. The school took several weeks to reply to our request.

2, When we enquired about our childrens applications, after several phone calls, we were told that we must just wait until the school gets back to us. They never did get back to us. We also found out that applications from students with certain nationalities were automatically/immediately accepted at the school.

3. When we enquired the Principal was rude and made racist comments to our enquiries.

4. During our childs entrance testing a Primary school Principal enquired why did we apply at the school as they don't have place. Then my Q was why did they contact us to have the test done???

If you are providing a service with such attitudes i can just imagines how these people are educating children of the future.

Hmm. The problems faced by parents when they try to find school places for their children seem to be getting worse, not better. I would recommend starting early and I would also suggest that you do not give up too easily, as some schools may tell you that there are no places and then, a week later, they hire an extra teacher and open an extra class.

How does anyone decided what is a "good" school? One that has charming and friendly teachers? One that has plenty of Islamic Studies and Arabic on the timetable? On that does not offer any Islamic Studies or Arabic, since they are not part of the British National Curriculum? One that has great facilities for sport? Music? Well, the answer may be some of these or all of them, but really it is all down to whether they will put you on the waiting list (some schools won't even do this!) and whether or not you can afford the fees. Then there is the little problem of the Doha traffic...

I fully agree with Edielweiss on all the points. The staff have been quite rude and racist with us when we applied for our child last year. They would never respond to any of our queries, kept putting us off whenever we tried to enquire at what stage our applications were at .I am glad that my child ultimately got into one of the top notch British schools here,I would certainly not recommend DMBS.

DMBS is the worst school my children went to. The principal especially, is very rude and racist. The teachers don't know how to teach and the students are awfully mean and rude.

If its the Montessori school that has been around for a few years, its not a true montessori based method, if their is a new one check it out to see if they have the correct tools and guidance teachers.

I was hoping they would open one closer to the West Bay. My son really enjoyed his Montessori preschool in Houston and doesn't seem as happy in a "traditional" preschool. Oh well.

Thanks for the info, Qatarzone.
