Hi Cypress,

I was from Beijing, lived in Canada, moved to Qatar last week. I guess my Mandarin is quite standard and I have been the teacher at University in China. I'm an Engineer currently. I might assist to you about spoken either with adults or kids Friday afternoon because I'm away only on Friday. I might go to Church in the morning.

My daughter was learning Cantonese then Mandarin up to the age of 12.

At age 9 she gained the second highest mark in the school [which included adults & kids from Chinese decent].

I really regret letting her drop it when she went to high school.

Chinese is a language with so many dialects. The main Dialects are ;

1. Manderin

2. Hokkain

3. Haianese

4. Toh Chu

5. Cantonese

It will not do any harm if you learn a bit before declaring yourself a self made professor of everything under the SUN :)
