Costs for Toddler Products
We are moving to Qatar in August and looking to save shipping costs by buying some items when we get there. I'm wondering about costs/availability for the following items. I've tried searching online but it seems that many of the local stores do not feature local prices (LuLu Hypermart, Carefore, Mothercare, Toys R Us, etc.)
High Chair--such as Fisher Price or similar quality
Toddler Bed, side rails, toddler bed mattress, sheets that fit
Currently I live in Korea and many international brands are marked up in cost by 30-50%.For example we bought a Fisher Price High Chair here that was US$100 but sells in the US for $30-50 (more than 50% mark up). The reason we bought it is because the quality and style are much more reliable than local brands (which seem to be of poor quality and safety).
Any help anyone can offer will be appreciated!
Unfortunately when it comes to kids our arms are twisted and we have to cough up.
If you think that's expensive check out the stuff they have at Blue Salon.
Toys r Us have a good section too, by the way.
Babyshop seem to have the best range at the best price, actually not too bad but bring waterproof sheets, can't find any, had to get them sent. Bottles, dummies, nappies are really reasonable, formula is a bit steep, and the selection of baby food is dismal so be prepared to make your own if u are not already. they stock Graco, maclaren, maxi cosi, all the big brands. just have to shop around. If u shop in mothercare, toys r us etc, expect to pay a GB pound price plus local markup so buy your basics at Carrefour or Lulu and the rest from the other stores. Good luck
We r expecting a new one in October so have costed out things here in Doha. Same problem as in Korea it sounds like, cheap chinese version available but not CE etc. approved so buying expensive real brands.
You can get all the prodcuts you mention but choice is poor and knowing where to go is sometimes hard for a newbie to get to know as soon as they arrive.
