Compulsory Vaccinations

I have heard that the government are planning to vaccinate all the kids against either seasonal flu, or swine flu (depending who you believe). Does anybody know if this will be compulsory or if parents will be able to opt out?

I believe this is optional. I've been once with the medical team giving vaccines and immunizing school childrens, and it needs a written consent from the parents.

Most parents won't have kids get H1N1 flu shots, study finds.

A national survey suggests parents are confused about the risks of the virus and its vaccine.

Germ-spreading schoolchildren are expected to be the focus of a massive U.S. vaccination campaign against the novel H1N1 flu.

But if their parents are hearing the rallying cry to have their kids vaccinated, they're not buying it, says a new national survey.

In a poll of 1,678 U.S. parents conducted by the University of Michigan's C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, 40% said they would get their children immunized against the H1N1 virus -- even as 54% indicated they would get their kids vaccinated against regular seasonal flu.

Among those who said they do not intend to have their kids vaccinated against H1N1, almost half -- 46% -- indicated they're not worried about their children becoming ill with the pandemic virus. Twenty percent said they do not believe the H1N1 flu is a serious disease.

There were differences along racial and ethnic lines in parents' responses, which were collected Aug. 13 to Aug. 31. More than half of Latino parents said they would bring their kids to get vaccinated against H1N1. Among white parents, 38% said they would do so. African American parents were the least inclined to vaccinate: 30% said they planned to do so.

About half of the parents who said they'd pass on the H1N1 flu shot for their kids expressed concern about possible side effects of the vaccine.

The chatter about seasonal flu and novel H1N1 flu, and the differences in their relative virulence, has certainly confused parents, the survey suggests. Half of respondents said they believe that, for children, seasonal and H1N1 flu pose roughly equivalent risks.

"That perception may not match the actual risks," Dr. Matthew Davis, the poll director, said in a statement. Davis is a University of Michigan professor of pediatrics and internal medicine.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that though serious complications of seasonal flu appear to spare most kids and strike the elderly and very young most heavily, the novel H1N1 flu appears to hit children and young adults hardest.

Not surprisingly, parents who believe that the H1N1 flu will be worse for children were most likely to say they will have their own children vaccinated.

In a news release accompanying the poll results, Davis said that public health officials wishing to maximize vaccination rates among schoolchildren need to communicate clearly to their parents that kids are at relatively greater risk of becoming seriously ill with the novel flu strain if they get it.

According to Al-Raya newspaper, Students will be handed a consent form to be signed by their parents on Sunday. Make sure that you return it with your child on Monday, otherwise he will be vaccinated for the seasonal flu, which I do not think it is necessary for healthy normal children.

The health council has received up to 350,000 units of seasonal flu vaccine since last week. It's the swine flu vaccines they are expecting in October.

The vacination being offered to QP is just the normal Flu vacination that is offered every year.

The assistant minister of Public Health had said that the country will not accept any trial vaccines but only those approved by the WHO and other regulatory bodies and why they seem to be dogding the responsibilities for any side effects is because the manufacturing companies have said they can't be sued for any lapses found with their vaccines. Seems like we are in a doldrum?

They said in the newspapers today that it's not compulsory, and that it's the parents' choice.

“The minister of health instructed us that the immunisation would be optional for students and the public, but mandatory for pilgrims as regulated by the Saudi authorities, and that whoever refuses to receive the shot will be held responsible for oneself and those who are under his care,” Dr Naji was quoted as saying to a local Arabic daily.

yeah ,kinda ironic don't you think, you be halt responsible in eighter cases

So if you DON'T take the vaccination YOU be responsible and if you take the vaccination and get a BAD side effect, THEY will not be halt responsible for it.

so you loos no matter what ....

just a thought

This is fishy:

"However, he refused to answer a question whether the health authority would request those who receiving the shots to sign a consent form absolving the authority of any responsibility in case of any serious side affects happened."

The government of Qatar refused to give parents the right to sue if the vaccination is having unwanted side effects. Because they do this, they cannot force you.

We heard the same thing here in Bahrain that all the kids would be vaccinated against the flu but just because its compulsory does not mean that I will agree. If they have a problem with it thats there issue.. there is no way my kid is gonna be a guinea pig for them to test there vaccines... why should someone be vaccinated when there is no need....

andremix vaccine from GlaxoSmithKline does contain squalene and thimerosal

side effects of squalene to occur takes months to years – and cannot be evaluated after up to 6 weeks of observation.

Der Spiegel (9) calls the mass vaccinations on Europeans a gigantic cost free experiment to provide the FDA with mass vaccination experience to clear the track for sale in the US.

EMEA admits that side effects can only be found through extensive vaccination campaigns! (1).

No, it's not compulsory. There is no plans yet to enforce a mandatory Swine Flu vaccination programme for kids and the public, however, those who opt out would be held resposible for their own decisions. But I am not sure of the side effects if any..

you could also say , your kid already had the flu, or has an allergic reaction against the ingredients of the vaccinations ....

taking those vaccinations is like playing Russian roulette with your body:(

you make get affected badly you may not, but I would not take the chance of testing it out

if it is compulsory i will keep my kids at home the day of the vacination, these vacinations are not fully tested and no body knows the future risks of these, i for one will boycot any vacination and if need be send my wife and kids out of Qatar closely followed by myself.

I'm sure they want to make it compulsory ! But as a parent you should have the right to say no!! I would stand up against it personally.

Anyways by the time the vaccination is available it is kinda after the fact. people would already been in contact with the flu ,they may have had it already or didn't get affect it by it.

If you think about it, it's been going around for a while!!!
