Children in cars

the truth 321
By the truth 321

Not sure if this should be posted in tourist attractions to be honest.

Is it just me or does the practice of putting young children in boots of cars seem somewhat odd? Having lived in Qatar for coming on 2 years now and will never get used to the sights of young children on plastic patio furniture in the rear of landcruisers etc.

Also children hanging out of sun roofs whilst travelling at break neck speed along the ring roads, do people not realise that if an accident were to occur these children would become miniature ballistic missiles only stopping once impact on hard road surface has occured in an almighty mess! (I know bit sick but true and straight to the point).

If you have any love for your children ensure they are secure and safe on all journeys!

tyler and vasquez thats so good of you to stop and help him out, and so brave to stay there and help....most people would have driven on. Bless you guys!

its a shame that so many lives are lost through people driving like idiots and not wearing seatbelts, but all i can say to those who drive like loons or belt up if you worked in an accident and emergency unit for one night for sure you would take care after.

Charlene you poor thing im sorry to shock with what i put! I dont put the dogs in the boot as xena said in the back of the car ... is there a word for a boot when its not quite a boot!

That is the law of the nature. When humanity lived in caves, those who were not smart enough to protect their siblings ended up their lineage terminated.

Same here, stupid fathers simply will have no one to continue their bloodline, and their genes will be taken out of the genetic pool of humanity. Laws of nature, in their modern application. Take it easy guys.

Last weekend Tyler and I stopped and helped a local man. We had just left the rugby club on the way down to Rydges around 10.30 when we passed a vehicle that seemed to be totally entangled around a light pole. I mentionend what I saw to Tyler and he just stepped on the brake straight away and turned the truck around. When we came back to the vehicle smoke started to come out from the hood - and we could hear the engine going on full power. I tried to turn of the power from the drivers seat, but i could not reach, that's when i noticed all the gasoline pumping out from the engine room. Then Tyler managed from the empty passenger seat to turn off the engine and we started helping the poor local guy. He was in some kind of shock, and was not responding to what we said in english. Then some bystanders around the vehicle started using fire extinguishers on the engine. I looked around and i noticed we had a huge crowd of spectators taking pictures on their cellphones, smoking within 5 m from the gasoline entangled wreck - what a bunch of idiots - so i started shouting get the hell away from here - theres gasoline on the ground - are you trying to kill us all?? That seemed to work - the crowd seemed to go a bit further away and put out their cigarets. Tyler meanwhile was trying to stabilize the guys c-spine - because he looked like he might have a neck injury as well. After what seemed like a long time - firetrucks, ambulances and police arrived to the scene. It took them the next 25 - 30 minutes to get the driver cut away from the wreck. Tyler stayed in there all the time trying to keep he calm as well a instruct these poorly educated

firefighters how to use jaws of life on a vehicle. I meanwhile hold the drivers bloody hands - no one else seemed to notice how he was trying to use his hands to get out.

In the end Tyler was able to get out and he was replaced by a local paramedic - and we where questioned by some police guy / scene leader. And we where free to go - We don't know what happened to the guy afterwards - we just managed to wash our hands in a local barbershop and then we went back to the Rugby club

So Richard - I would say that's another lunatic away from the road for a while.

Questions - what's wrong with people - you don't take pictures at a crash site - that's disgusting!!!

The only bizarre thing about this accident is that the driver managed to kill only himself and not take anyone else with him. One less lunatic on the road, but how many more will replace him?

FROM GULF TIMES:

A QATARI teenager was killed in a “bizarre” road accident in Gharrafa on Friday, a Traffic Department official said yesterday.

The 19-year-old boy died on the spot when his Land Cruiser literally flew off the road and hit the top of a 3m-high compound wall, nearly 3m away from the road, said Brig Mohamed Abdullah al-Malki, adviser at the department.

The 4x4 vehicle then landed on the ground a few metres away. But the boy, who was thrown off the vehicle, flew a further 50m before hitting the ground, the official said. “Presumably, he was not wearing a seat belt.”

The cause of the accident is puzzling too. There are tyre marks on the road but there is no clue as to what may have caused the driver to take evasive action and hit the kerb before take off.

Whatever the reason, it was a bizarre accident, the official commented. The base of the wall is undamaged, he pointed out. How could the vehicle soar so high in the air is absolutely puzzling, he said.

The answer they are looking for is the poor kid was doing 100MPH at the time. God rest his soul.

What Charmed was meaning is putting the dogs at the back (the trunk)....of the SUV... She would never put her babies (dogs) in the trunk either, if the car was a sedan....

I read that article in the Gulf Times... was really humourous.

Touching on the topic of seat belts, there was this one time in the Gulf Times when a traffic officer presented a driver with a rose for some Satey Week or Safety Day... but the best part of it was the driver wasn't even wearing his seat belt... that was amusing... brought about a huge uproar in the days to come... funny eh?

I can remember a time and not too long ago when not wearing seatbelts was NOT against the law....Yes most ppl still put their children in car seats but the older ones did not wear their belts nor did most adults.

Once it was the law then ppl slowly started to do it. And now today you seldom see ppl in Canada without them on. My point here is make it the law, start with some hefty tickets when caught without them and eventually it will catch on...

charmed, I've never put a dog in the trunk of a car, nor would I ever.

But hey, if they (not just Qataris OK) don't want to follow the law, they won't. And it is their loss and they will have to live with it. Look after your own and maybe one day it will filter through.

not this topic again????

its been discussed over and over again and never reaches anywhere. after sometime it just gets nasty.

frankly the people to whom this message should reach are not exactly reading this forum are they????else people would have become more aware of child safety.

someone try to get this message across to the authorities first, else its just the same old messages that are going to get posted here, and somewhere along the line tempers will flare up, because people genuinely care about children and when we start discussing how careless parents can get, it gets us all worked up.

This topic always gets me riled up. Put your kids in a car seat...if they're older, put their seat belt on. That's all there is to it. And Richard, it disgust me as well.

Do you mean in the trunk with the lid closed? This can't be true. As far as babies on the dashboard and children hanging out of the windows and sun roofs, infants on the laps of drivers etc. This disgusts me. I have said so on numerous posts on this site. I feel like punching these idiot parents who do this. It is not just Arabs though, you see the same with many families from the subcontinent. We have commented on this so many times.

One person was going to address this issue on Sheika Moza's website but I don't know what happened about this. If you check posts from last year you will see that this is a big issue and attracts a lot of comment. Some people get pretty heated about us westerners telling them how to care for their children and want us to butt out. I guess I understand that but the thought of child deaths and horrendous injury makes me feel sick and I wish there was something that could be done to avoid it.

i mean we put the dogs in the boot but only because we dont want the back seats to get dirty - is this the same for the kids then, keep them in the boot to keep the car tidy?

good point thou - i have made my friends out here who dont use seatbelts for there children to promise me that they will in future strap their children in, it can save there life, serious i know people who have lost children and its the worst thing in the world, why put childrens lifes at risk? Children are a future and although i joke this is no joking matter strap them in save there lives
