Canadian School?

Hello,
I may be moving do Doha with wife/2 kids (from Canada). Sorry if this question is answered in some other post, but if I am moving to take employment with one of the "Q" companies, then are my 2 kids (elementary school age) "automatically" eligible for one of the "Canadian" schools (like the new one)? The contract seems to suggest that "HR will select a suitable school". Can anyone help me understand what "suitable" might mean?

Or are my worst suspicions true - that its like a roll of the dice - you get to Doha and just get assigned whatever school has an opening.

thank you.

try Hayat billingual school, it has the BC Canadian curriculum and its accredited, do a search here, i think QL has it on their school data base and good luck, schooling here is a nightmare.

Sania,

When you go back to Canada they will mainly look at the child age and accordingly they will asses the child. It is always a good practice, whenever you decide to go back, get the books of the year and review it with your kid. The child can easily continue education without problems.

This school has many issues the least of which is the high teacher turnover and lack of facilities. The biggest issue is that it is NOT accredited! If you have a choice - choose somewhere else. The teachers are canadian trained - that's a good thing. It does not have a gym, track and field, nor a pool. (Which may seem extraordinary in other parts of the world but not Doha. ) All the top schools have fantastic facilities.

I agree with marycatherine, the Canadian School in Doha is not recommended. The school has nothing to do with Canada except for the name.

Copying a provincial curriculum and claiming affiliation is not appropriate.

Too many issues were occurring which led teachers to leave in the middle of the school term. The school has recently appointed a new principle with the aim to fix the problems but I wouldn't trust to put my kids there.

As a Canadian you are entitled to put your kids in the American school or if you choose in any of the British schools.

Usually it is your responsibility/job to find a place (and start applying NOW - the better schools have long waiting lists usually).

I wouldn't recommend the Canadian School that is associated with CNA-Q as their quality does not compare with the American School or Doha College. The Canadian school only goes up to grade 9 anyways, so you would have to find a place at another school at that point.

Most of the CNAQ employees' students go to the Canadian School and from what I hear from parents it's 'OK'.
