My family and I are moving to Qatar in March. My daughter will be 6 months old then and I hope to still be breastfeeding her. Are there public facilities for this or am I going to have a problem when out of the house and its lunch time?
I don't think there will be a problem with breastfeeding in public in Qatar because people do understand. But of course you would always wanted to be discrete at all times so some places for breastfeeding is available for mothers.
I never tried breastfeeding in public though so, I don't pretty have any problem. But in rare cases I just do it inside the car.

even if u sit in the centre of the mall on a bench and decide to feed.u can do so.....u just need to pull a wrap over you....no one will give u a second glance.
i have fed in busy traffic jams and my baby has the nasty habit of pulling the wrap away from her bcos she wants to look at me while feeding.....that used to be tiresome...trying to cover her and she fighting with me to pull it down.now i feed her just once or twice a day bcos she gets her nutrition from other foods......so no worries.
even if there are no baby rooms in the shops.u can request to use their changing room for it...they wont refuse you..........better than using the toilet.
there are 6 or more malls and all of them have some or the other kiddie store..so it wont be a problem at all.
Thank you so much for the feed back. I am really looking foward to the move but did not want to be confined to my house because I was breastfeeding. I have breasfeeding tops which make it very discreet. With the addition of a blanket she should be as happy as larry wherever we go.
I have a 13 month old and I'm still breastfeeding, although now I only do it in my home when she was younger I used to breastfeed anywhere I think if you are discrete and have a blanket or one of those special covers( I strongly suggest for you to get one) it will be ok. I have breast feed in the Cornish, at Royal plaza (bathroom) and at the clinic near my home, every time I cover my self with a blanket people didn't even realize. Remember you have the right to breast feed whenever your baby needs to. www.lalecheleague.org.
i am with jaelee.....had both my babies here and have always breast fed them....in the car with a wrapper over me...in marks n spencer, mother care baby room.had no problem.yup even if out for dinner n the baby needs feeding....have done it.no one will say anything.ofcourse in restaurants.. i would try to take a table away from the main crowd just in case..............have never fed in public toilet.
mothercare feeding room in hyatt is much better than the others....they have a proper sitting area.bottle warmers and stuff.
I have had my last 2 children in Qatar and breastfed both, still breastfeeding my baby who is 10 month old.
We have to travel over an hour to get to Doha so I am always having to breastfeed while out.
So far I have never had a problem. I refuse to go to a public toilet to feed.
I have fed in Mothercare's changerooms. Debenhams Changerooms. Marks and Spencers at Landmark has a room, with change table.
I also will discretely feed in public, usually in a restaurant with a large baby blanket over me. (I have even fed in Home Centre and sat down on one of their lovely lounge suites for sale .... the baby wanted feeding there and then!!!)
I haven't really done anything different to what I did back home (Aus) with my other two children. However saying all this, Qatar has a long way to come to make it a breasfeeding baby friendly place.
When in Aus they have lovely "parents rooms" with curtained cubicles, automatic doors for the prams, drinking water, change mats, special nappy bins, microwaves etc etc. You will not find that here anywhere.
Some of the baby stores such as Mothercare and Baby Shop have little rooms you can use. I haven't seen any nice places to sit in any of the public bathrooms at the malls.
