Al Ahli Hospital

Everytime I go to this place with my family, I end up annoyed. The doctors are great, but the level of service by the support staff is shocking. They just don't seem to care. You have to wait for hours to see the doctors. It makes the NHS in the UK look good.

Why do they have such a nice building, great doctors, but such a poor service ethic? It makes no sense to me at all.

You can't make appointments in advance because they don't have schedules for more than 2 weeks ahead and it's impossible to get anyone to answer the phone if you call them.

Is there anywhere better? People tell me all the hospitals are the same, but at least Al Ahli has good doctors and is very clean.

Went to al Ahli hospital today! So disappointed! No professional customer services !only money, money!Suggest all of you to think about carefully if you want to make an appointment !

I have a lump (looks like) on my right whist and went to the Surgery . I talked the nurse at the reception and show the lump to the nurse, then paid 25 riyals for registration (actually 200rialys, thanks to the insurance which deducted 175 riyals) . A surgeon looked at the right hand, told me it looked like a ganglion, better to go orthopedic, would refer me to the orthopedic 。 I didn’t think too much and followed his suggestion . When I went to orthopedic , I was asked to pay another 25 riyals (actually another 200 riyals) because I had another consultation with another doctor. So stupid! I paid 200riyals for first 5 minutes consultation, the problem was not solved at all , why do I pay again? I talked with the surgery nurse, she didn’t say anything and arranged appointment with a surgeon for me, moreover, the surgeon just referred me to another department in the same hospital and charged me 200 riyals in 5 minutes. Everyone earns money hardly. I complained this issue to the supervisor , he said you had to pay two times (400 riyals)because the doctor spent the time even though he didn’t solve the problems . I am so angry that I will never ever been that bad hospital again.

I visited the OBGYN in March 2019 for infertility issue.. I was asked to run some tests which I did.. and they all came back good... So why am I having delayed or no period ?

Proper blood test was not done.

I was only asked to go for abdominal scan and check for insulin, prolactin and 2 more hormones which came back good.. But I still had this feeling that I needed to test for more hormones before arriving to a treatment because I paid for it.

I was prescribed duphaston for 3 months.. that I was going to get pregnant during the treatment.

Right now my period has seized for 2 months and nothing to show for it. When I try talking to my doctor, she responds as if i am a pest.

I had to visit Women's hospital and an extensive blood test was done, the result showed that I have low Thyroid stimulating hormone which prevents me from ovulating and outright causing the delayed or no period.

In conclusion, if you charge me for a service and I pay fully.. I deserve a full diagnoses and treatment and don't complicate my problem too.

Al Ahli dissapointed me so much.

Making money is not easy for any one and so if I pay my hard earned money to you for a service.. please kindly pay full attention to me..

I had a very disappointing experience in Al Ahli hospital. This hospital is about visuals. It looks rather like a mall than a hospital. It has a fountain, some green plants, a coffeshop, an ATM and many cashiers. This is why it is considered to be the best hospital in Doha. However what makes a hospital reputable is not how luxurious it looks and how expensive you pay for services, but how well qualified and efficient the health professionals there are. The doctors and the nurses are hidden in a section with doors that can be open only from the inside. There are signs "Agressive behaviour to the staff is not tolerated". I wonder why these signages even exist if the staff is formed by good professionals to whom patients should be normally grateful...

I have consulted a pulmonologist, Dr. Hassan Al-Sawaf, following a recommendation. He tried to hear my breathing through my jacket, which shocked me, and all the consultation was about ordering costly tests and finally prescribing common treatments without looking for further issues. So, I have finally decided to seek treatment and health care abroad anytime I need it.

Entered by 11.30 AM (Booked appointment a day before) left by 2.00 PM. Consulted for urology,

500 riyal for consultation

150 riyal for x-ray

80 riyal for medicine

Doctor was good and have time to hear your story. Even he himself came out and took me back for second consultation about X-ray (nurse gone some where for long time...).

Its a surprise for me to a hospital like this. Designed like a hotel than a hospital. But its too much to have a LUGGAGE TROLLEY near the gate!!! (on seeing that I thought I was entering a hotel mistakenly stood for a second and after seeing a signboard "pediatrics" I confirmed its a hospital and entered)

From my point we are paying more for the wrapper than the chocolate inside.

I always go to Ahli Hosp and all times have been wonderful.

My son goes to their pediatric section. Dr Atiya is AMAZING.

I have seem Dr Razan for the dermatology section

Also as well had a endoscopy previously there and it was successful.

I think that those who had a bad visit, its bad luck. It happens everywhere. Maybe next time I will have an unlucky day!

mediocre is what I can say about this place. No adequate hospital clothes will I was there, despite i've blood in my clothes and in bed only the day after was changed. No towels available, drinking water is rationed even after a kidney stone removal....is just bad

Totally agreed. I had the bad idea to use this hospital for some treatment and it was a traumatizing experience. Everybody in this kind of hotel wanna be hospital is only concern in insurance claim forms, starting with doctors that look like traders. In fact I've an appointment today but i go there just to fill a claim form to the management and I'll never return

Why do they bother installing phones?

No point calling the front desk and explaining to them that no-one is answering the phone in their billing section - that's just the way it is. Getting reinbursed from insurance is an exercise in frustration.

jcochr I'm intrigued as to how you saved someones life?! Pray tell! The nurses are not untrained at all! Just not to a particular standard or their bosses aren't, one of the two!

who changes your drips and tubes that keep you alive?. You won't see many of those expensive doctors hanging around at 2 in the morning when untrained nurses are taking your life in their hands.

Statistics will tell you a little about the level of risk that you take whilst in hospital but what about those places where the statistics are not recorded?

I really don't agree with jcochr. There are plenty of good doctors and good medical establishments here, just like any other place in the world. Okay you will see malpractice sometimes as in any other country, and thus you need to make your own research and check the best doctors in the field.

Back home, people go after names and not establishments. As in if i need a dermatologist then i check who's the best in town in that field, i want a cardiologist i check in that field. You can find all the specialties you want in one establishment but you can not always find the best all in one place.

In 2006 the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies in USA study found that medication errors are among the most common medical mistakes, harming at least 1.5 million people every year. In 2000,2001, and 2002 an average of 195,000 hospital deaths in each of the years in the U.S. were due to potentially preventable medical errors. Wanna talk Europe be my guest ...

You'll like this. I saw a doctor at Al Ahli - the doctor told me to make an appointment and see him again in two weeks.

I went to the appointment window. This girl was sitting there staring into empty space. She snapped out of her stupor and looked at me and exclaimed: "Whaaaaat?". I said "I'd like to make an appointment." I handed her the appointment form my doctor gave me. She said "What? What am I supposed to do about it?"

I said "Well the sign says that this is the appointment office and that's the appointment form my doctor gave me!" She then sighed and said "OK, when does he want to see you?". I said "It's on the form, in two weeks time."

And so it went on. Later that week I was called and rescheduled.

Really weird place, but the doctors are good...

criticisms. I like those who post the positive ways and do hope it reaches the concerned party.

But for those who opted the other way, better review your ways. If you will look for any wrong or bad thing in a thing or a person or a hospital or a company, for sure you will always find one or two or a dozen. But it's not the way you want it exposed but the way you want it changed or improved.

Complaints are growing (as perceived) but still more people are going there, so keep complaining, maybe there's a truth in the saying "good or bad publicity, still a publicity". Lol!!!!!!

I had surgery there, my husband had surgery there,

we have been to the emergency dept several times for x-rays, broken bones & stitches. Seen many doctors.

We have gotten excellent care there. My only complaint is that within the last 6 months the wait times to see a doctor have doubled. My last 3 appointments there I had to wait 1 hour 45 minutes to get into the dr. I have written a letter to management telling them of this problem. I hope they correct it soon, because after 5 years in Doha I have been to every hospital her and I rate Al Ahli head and shoulders above the rest. I don't want to strike it off my list as well.

It is a very poor hospital in terms of nurse care and actual medical attention. They almost killed a person due to their negligence and probably would have done if I had not been there. They prescribe drugs like they are sweets and give treatments that make them more money rather than because they have any medical value.

In any other country these people would come under the control of a medical council of some sort. In Al Ahli they come under the control of accountants.

From my experience as an expat, I am not sure if there are any really good medical facilities in Doha and I would not recommend anyone staying here to have medical treatment if they could go to Europe, USA, etc.

u know, al ahli hospital is new in doha, as a new hospital there are lot of things to be done to be the best... if you dnt like the services there are other hospital/clinics to choose from..dont bother yourself looking for the mistakes or weaknesses...good luck..

i hope you can fine better services than Al Ahli can offer you...

***doctors from al ahli hospital are well trained from foreign countries like UK, America, Italy and others..there are not "just " ordinary doctors...

***nursing staff are doing their best in providing guests' needs and comforts...nurses are on continuous education...

***maybe you to the wrong side of the comfort room, or you made the dirts...

When Al Ahli first opened several years ago, the service was very good, the prices were very reasonable and you could just walk in without an appointment. Of course that was too good to last!

With the influx of expats to the country, basic services cannot cope and this is demonstrated all too clearly at Al Ahli.

* As you say, no one ever picks up the telephone - you are constantly forwarded to voicemails that do not work

* An appointment time means nothing - the average wait in OB/GYN with an appointment in my experience is well over an hour - and I have been known to wait for 3 hours (and not because of an emergency delivery!)

* OB/GYN has turned into a complete money-making machine (prices have gone up significantly in the last year) with too many patients - the result is that the general level of service is very poor

* When you do get seen by certain doctors, they rush you out of the appointment and do not conduct the consultation thoroughly (they do not make detailed notes) or professionally (nurses and other patients come into the consultation room while you are having your consultation!) - I have had to actually close the door and ask people to wait until my consultation is finished!

* Certain of the doctors are simply not competent and, if you are in any doubt - or if you are able to consult with a doctor in your home country - get a second opinion if you need treatment for anything that is not routine

* The level of service from the support staff is shocking - generally (although there are exceptions - such as the Gastro unit which has excellent support staff) there is no sense of professionalism or really of them having any idea what they are doing. There seems to be an abundance of them yet nothing really seems to get done - at least not terribly efficiently

* Most of the toilets are filthy - this is basic hygiene and should not be happening in a hospital - it makes me laugh when they put ornaments (decorative vases etc) in the ladies toilets yet the place is absolutely filthy - there is no excuse for that

Sadly, Al Ahli is a shining example of a recurring problem in Doha - you can build 5 star buildings, hotels etc but if they are being run and staffed by people with 2/3 star mentality and training, then it just does not add up to good service.

Having said all that, Al Ahli is still a dream compared to Hamad Hospital - don't even go there unless you really have no other choice!

Good luck!

Did you report it to the Management? Write them a looooooong complaint letter!

We need more private hospitals in Doha I say.. The more pvt hospitals the more competition And we will benefit from that!

I've always found Al Ahli to be excellent. All the staff have been very helpful and efficient and I've never waited more than 30min to see a doctor (with an appointment of course).
