Pepper Spray for Self Defense for woman

angel_surfer
By angel_surfer

I thought of buying a pepper spray here in qatar. I was adviced by my brother to have one for self defense. just this morning when I was waiting for my carlift, there were 4 male students, about 14 to 17 years of age, walked along my back side. one of this male wearing the arabic white dress/tobe with a chechered red and white turban on head, touched my butt! i fought back his arms in a hastily and rude manner and walked away from them. they just walked as if nothing happened. what a hell are they doing with ladies here?! it sucks!

now the question...are pepper sprays legal here in qatar? please help! im beginning to get upset in the area.

Pepper Spray is useless. Rizks bought some as protection through Doha Jadeed.. He didn't realise that the local residents were used to hot curries :O(

A big possibility that has provoked this behavior is the way you were dressed. Wearing tight/short cloths may indicate that you are seeking attention, especially in our society. At least that's what I think.

and age isn't a criteria by the way when someone wants to do something wrong.

just as it isn't when someone wants to achieve something in their lives.

I can only share what was relayed to me years ago when I met an elderly American lady whilst on a break in our yoga classes. and this lady had survived an attack by Ted Bundy whilst she was studying in Uni.

she said that her screaming saved her.

no doubt she was one of the lucky ones who escaped.

yes she moved on with her life. but regardless, she still was unable to sleep at nights - had nightmares - and so on. she was lucky as she had supportive friends, a loving family etc.

Bundy didn't expect her to scream and let go of her neck.

basically, you need to tell your friends/ your family/ classmates. have a support system. emergency numbers both local/ home/ friends/ classmates/ etc. just in case.

if possible, try and go with your classmate/ colleague/ etc. always have your BB/ iPad ready. if you have an iPad get one with a wifi and sim connection that allows you to connect anywhere.

do not give in just because you feel you won't get help.

Angel Surfer:-

can suggest "screaming for help"

those who do such depraved things are

1. amoral/ perverse/ depraved

2. bullies

3. weak-minded

that is why they do so in packs or if alone; perhaps if they see you as a passive person.

-when you scream they don't expect you to do such a thing.

-they do expect submissiveness.

Some nationalities in the Gulf are considered cheap and liable for abuse without any fuss. How do you explain a situation whereby someone abuses you and you just say " Yes Sir OR Al baab" Dont you have your country ? Children have watched this and now want to prode this patience further.

qatar malayalai, have you ever ben to Saudi? If not, go, and then we talk again.

I only said it might hlp her if she wears an abaya and covers her face to not show her nationality. As it is sadly, rather common for the women of her nationality to get pestered...more so than others, to my knowlege.

Alter Dusty - until you are approached by a group of people who are larger than you and who touch you in an inappropriate way - you have no idea what you are talking about - hope there are no groups of teenagers looking for someone in your demographic.

AD, no , I don't know what you mean:/

And I agree, making a fuss abut it on QL does not exactly help.

But the post was really about the legality of pepper spray, non?

Yes nomerci, definitely if i couldn't teach him on the spot, how to behave with women, else i wouldn't make it a big puss on QL.

btw, most probably he the teenager could be pretty inspired with modern tv programs, where touching someone unknown body parts in public by teenagers, is not a big deal, and U know what i mean?

By nomerci• 16 Jun 2011 19:36

Hmm., AD, so you would say " come on it's only a teenager " if he touched your mother's/sister's /wife's butt?

rules are same every where.. its not like that, that the local will say or do any thing they want.. in qatar rules are same for all.. So don't worry.. if they are 4 then what? not better then you.. so don't worry.. be confident. do the insult at the best. and do the rest i told you.. why they became like this.. just because of those who didn't said any thing to them and remain silent.. today they are doing it in public without fear..

Angel.... always keep ur courage with u to stand up for ur rights when bullies are around.. been there & done something not quite bad but serves its purpose..of defending myself... ^_^

Nonetheless, be cautious at all times... ^_^

einalem or melanie :), ladies become poor victims of bullies here! i wish there will be rules here that women are allowed to carry such self defense materials.

vivme, not all nationality will bother to help during times like this, instead they might as well beleive the culprit's side. i dont know. justice might not be anywhere in here.

you need not wait and look for people of your own nationality.. When in trouble I think most people can recognise it would be happy to help. It only takes some company to drive these nuts off...

These are the kind that bring disrepute to an otherwise calm country..

Don't worry, just be on your guard and you will be fine..

hey guys! i agree with marycathrine.. i have thought of shouting or screaming and tell bad words towards those filthy teenagers but i looked around and i havent spotted anyone with nationality same as mine so atleast i can run to. i thought people around may just look or laugh at me instead of helping me.

arabian princess, i also thought of slaping his face but there's 4 of them. though teenagers, they are far stronger than a woman and they can do anything because this is their teritory. glecs is right too but in some point ingeneiro has a point. maybe before i weigh things on what to do with those youngsters, they're all gone laughing at poor victims.
