How to tackle heavy traffic

It seems traffic has come down nowadays as most of the schools are closed for winter. So will it help in reducing the huge traffic during the peak hours by changing the school timings.

No actually schools don't start at the same time as most offices in my home country at least. Offices usually start 30 - 60 minutes earlier than school timings.

Obviously people commenting haven't got kids..If people used the roads properly we wouldn't have this problem, maybe read up on how to use a roundabout properly whilst at it!

A school bus system (similar to what happens in USA) would be a good start in resolving this.

Offices and schools start at the same time in most countries, don't they? Why is it only a problem in Qatar?

Nooo!!! ... All offices, schools, etc etc. should start AT THE SAME TIME!! We all enjoy getting stuck in massive jams, while we look at what other people are doing!!

yes..definitely. All offices, sites and schools are starting nearly same time. Govt should change the timing of schools which is very early to get up by children. Timing may be change to 8.30 to 9 AM.

ITS Intellingent transport system which control traffic over a large area in a city by controlling traffic signals with movement of traffic, but again Qatar needs to catch up with the rest of the world :)

Very simple, limit the number of cars to locals to 1, introduce them to public transport and offer free bus transport

so, family days in malls will be empty;

lets make it singles day!

By fubar• 28 Dec 2011 11:05

Yes, and only let them travel in buses.

Don't let them go to malls.

And when they aren't busy you can use them as seat fillers for sporting events.

I'm gonna start a Facebook campaign to kick all these damn families out of Qatar. 15,000QR minimum for family status. And no family visit visas either.

And company medical insurance shouldn't cover childbirth - these foreigners shouldn't be abusing the medical system in Qatar to BREED!

hmm, extending on the suggestions, hire only singles, and house them within office premises, make them work in orange uniforms provided by the company and serve them food at office canteens only at fixed times. Hence no more rush to the malls or restaurants either :p

I'm all for the singles only policy.

No more kids running around out of control in shops and restaurants and food courts.

Heaven!!

And then there's the traffic situation solved too.

People should just get pets, not kids.

They should raise the Minimum Salary requirement for family visa to QR 25,000. Then lot of problems will be solved :)

Even better idea hire only Singles...no family...no children...no school run..and only one car!!

they should limit the number of cars that an expat family can own to 1.

would that still reduce traffic congestion?

By fubar• 28 Dec 2011 09:43

Maybe the government should increase the salary requirement for family visas, to limit the number of children in the country? That should help.

A well-functioning public transport system would help. But that is only for developed countries!
