MoCI announces the recall of Apple’s AirPods Pro due to functional abnormality
In cooperation with Redington, the official dealer of Apple in Qatar, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) announced the recall of Apple AirPods Pro, that were sold between October 2019 and October 2020.
It has been identified that some of the product’s active noise cancellation features may not function as expected, leading to crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments.
Apple’s official website can confirm that a small percentage of AirPods Pro that was manufactured before October 2020 may exhibit sound issues.
The affected AirPods Pro may exhibit a crackling or static sound that increases in loud environments while exercising or while talking on the phone.
Moreover, the ‘Active Noise Cancellation’ feature will not work as expected, leading to a loss of bass sounds or an increase in background sounds.
The website had also pointed out that authorized Apple service providers will repair the affected AirPods Pro (left, right, or both) for free.
The initiative falls under the MoCI’s continuous effort towards ensuring the protection of consumers in Qatar, and overseeing the active pursual of dealers on product defects and repairs.
The MoCI stated that it will coordinate with Redington to follow up on the maintenance and repair of the affected Apple products, and will communicate the steps to carry out required repairs.
Customers are encouraged by the MoCI to report any violations to its Customer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud Department, which deals with complaints, inquiries, and suggestions through its call center (16001), email, or social media channels.
