piratelover@ It is not like that, they will not consider your bill value for duty calculation purpose.for example if you buy the tv in the offer rate / or purposefully if you make TV bill with lesser price to make reduce the tax value. so they will follow their list and the rates as per the indian market, even if you get the TV as a gift, they will calculate duty as per indian value only.
As per my info, the duty is calculated based on ur bill here,,,,,,suppose if its 2000 QR. The officials wil convert it into INR value which means it wil b coming around 34 K. Then they wil apply 36% duty on this 34 K. Afterwards, it wil come to around Rs. 12,240 / -. Hope this helps :) So, based upon ur customs value, i wil recommend to buy 1 bottle of scotch whisky and gift it to custom officials on airport :))
By imposing this tax on 32" and above LCD TV's, govt opened doors for the customs officers to ask for bribe from hard earned expats. Many of the guys directly ask for bribe even if one prefers to pay tax legally. God bless bharath.
but keep the original invoice for the TV with you, then it is safe that they are calculating the tax value for the same model of TV what you are importing in to INDIA.because they have a list of TV name & its indian Market Price size wise. so show him your invoice, he will check the tax for the same model as mentioned in the invoice.
you can import any kind of TV to india, you have to pay 35 % customs duty in india.
if you buy any branded 40" LED TV worth Around Qr. 2000, you have to pay tax IRS:8000 - 9000 approximately. but still as a unwritten law in india, you can pay some money and take it out.

Customs is VERY STRICT nowadays on TV. 35% of the TV value is CUSTOMS DUTY. Customs has the price list of all TV brands. So you plan accordingly.
It is legal, but u should pay the duty....the tax...
