You don't have to Jailbreak to get apps.
Just launch the AppStore from your iPhone and download away.
There are certain apps that you can't get from the AppStore, like Winterboard (for skins and themes) and other apps that alter the phone's system.
You can learn how to Jailbreak, it's very easy actually, just click here for a step by step guide, you can find a lot of useful information on that website also.

i dont think you all who replied to his question were born knowing everything in this world, so get a life, and for the apps you can download it either thru itunes or thru APP store on ur iphone - make sure you are connected to internet.. Good luck.

Well, for a start, better have your iPhone unlocked and jailbrokened first. After that, you can install applications. Go to classifieds and check there where you can unlock and jb your iphone. Good luck
