Under the AEFE (Agency for French Education Abroad), the Lycée Bonaparte has been established in Doha to ensure a French education of a high standard for Qatari citizens. I myself went there and after eight (long) years of hard work and perseverance, came out a brave soldier.

This article will provide you with a quick and easy profile of the Lycée Bonaparte de Doha. For more information, you can always check out their website (note: it’s in French).

Established in 1976, the Lycée Bonaparte (“Ecole Française” back then) started off in a villa in C Ring Road. It is now located in West Bay. Fast forward 42 years, the school has a brand new 2018 project, Project Bonaparte 2018, aiming to incorporate new educational and recreational facilities to the building, allowing it to welcome more students.

With a 30% acceptance rate, the Lycée Bonaparte has around 1,450 students, from 45 different nationalities. It covers pre-school all the way to high school (a great way to have all your kids at the same place).

Classes that are offered include English, Spanish, Arabic, Latin, mathematics, physics, chemistry, arts, music, physical education, history, geography and many others, all taught in French. Starting grade 11, students have to choose between a science, an economic or a literature branch. This choice will determine the direction of the student’s education in their last two years of high school.

The sports facilities include a swimming pool, a running track, a football pitch, basketball courts and gymnasiums. It also has separate recreational spaces for pre-school, primary school and middle/high school.

Your children will have memories ranging from their first carnival in pre-k (where you’ll have no choice but to smile and cheer for your child who’s dressed up in some sort of fruit) to stressing out outside “la salle polyvalente” (an exam room where we suffered for endless hours) to crying over the day physical education became a thing.

The fees for the 2018 school year are as follows*:

  • Pre-school: QAR 26,157
  • Primary school: QAR 26,512
  • Middle school: QAR 31,203
  • High school: QAR 40,016

*some reduction may be applied
