HBKU’s College of Health and Life Science highlights potential Polish-Qatari cooperation
Dr. Edward Stuenkel, founding dean of the College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), recently participated in the Qatar-Poland virtual roundtable, organized by the Embassy of Poland in Qatar.
The online conference included panels covering cooperation in four key sectors: energy and information technology, aviation, finance, and banking, as well as research and development. The roundtable provided Polish and Qatari institutions and enterprises with an opportunity to exchange experiences and show the development potential of Polish-Qatari cooperation in the sectors. The event concluded with the official inauguration of the Qatar-Poland Business Council by the Polish Ambassador to Qatar, HE Janusz Janke.

Dr. Stuenkel shared CHLS’ ongoing research and development efforts in important health-related fields, with an emphasis on the translation of research outcomes to address clinical challenges. He also highlighted the importance of transdisciplinary collaborations.
Other leading speakers were Dr. Anna Kowalczuk, director, Head of the Polish National Medicines Institute; Professor Krzysztof Marycz, deputy dean, Collegium Medicum, Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University, Warsaw; Mr. Michael Paul Frenneaux, chief of Scientific, Faculty and Academic Affairs, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC); and Mr. Michal Kulinski, assistant executive director AHS, A/AED Medical Research Center, HMC; and Dr. Nabeel Al Salem, chief advisor partnerships, Qatar Foundation.
Dr. Edward Stuenkel, Founding Dean, HBKU, said: “The event highlighted the strong ties and partnerships Qatar has with Poland, which span several sectors, including higher education and research. For our part, it was an opportunity to be part of an exchange between the two countries’ leading institutions in academia and science.
“The roundtable initiated a dialogue which we are hopeful will lead to new and impactful working partnerships that address national and global health challenges, while also attracting outstanding international students to benefit from our innovative master’s and Ph.D. programs at CHLS.”
