College of Science and Engineering highlights the use of AI to treat mental health

Dr. Mowafa Househ, associate professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University's (HBKU) College of Science and Engineering (CSE), spoke on AI for Mental Health: Challenges and Opportunities.

He had delivered two talks organized by institutions in the USA and Canada, in an effort to strengthen international collaboration.

The guest lecture highlighted the increasing incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) to prevent, diagnose, and treat mental health. Moreover, he presented an overview of his work on AI for mental health in the Middle East, during the pandemic, and beyond.

Dr. Mowafa also participated in the University of Calgary’s CHI Virtual Speaker Series, where he spoke on Mental Health Informatics: From Stigma to Empowerment – A Middle Eastern Perspective

During his presentation, he highlighted three of the projects and applications he is currently working on; ESRA, SUKUN, and MOMEHED. It will provide digital mental health support and is intended to empower individuals and families in Qatar and the MENA region.

The College of Science and Engineering offers cutting-edge programs that are well-aligned with national and international challenges, aspirations, and needs.

The college offers 13 degrees across three divisions spanning Sustainable Development; Information and Computing Technology; and Engineering Management and Decision Sciences.
