Five dishes you should definitely try out from a South Indian restaurant!
If you have lived in Doha for a while, you have definitely at least seen, if not eaten at, south Indian restaurants like Saravanaa Bhavan, Annapoorna The Garden, Arya’s and so on. If you’re not from the area, you most likely don’t know what’s good. And besides having regular Dosas, you probably never bothered experimenting.
As part of Qatar Living's Foodie Month, we have collated a list of five dishes that you definitely try on your next visit to an Indian restaurant.
Idli Sambar
Idli is a savoury cake of sorts, made from rice and lentils, and while it may not taste the best if eaten plain, it is super delicious when soaked with sambar and dipped in coconut chutney. Sambar is again a specialty, made from lentils and spices and is of a thin consistency.
Medhu Vada Sambar
A medu vada is a deep-fried savoury Indian doughnut of sorts. This is again served with sambar and coconut chutney. The more you soak it in sambar, the better it tastes. Most restaurants usually serve two pieces of medu vada.
Onion Uthappa
Uthappa is very similar to a dosa, except that it’s much thicker, and has more ingredients and in the case of an onion uthappa, it is obviously loaded with onions. Make sure you’re carrying breath mints in your bag!
Rava Dosa
Rava dosa is similar to a regular dosa as well, but in this version it is made from semolina and rice flour. It has a stronger taste than a regular dosa. Even the variation that comes with the potato masala inside is great!
Poori Bhaaji
This is definitely comfort food. Pooris are smaller, deep-fried chapattis, that are loaded with flavour, and bhaaji is mashed potato or semi-mashed potato cooked with a variety of spices. Perfect for any time of the day, really!
So so.
oh wow! would you mind mentioning the restaurant name per each picture please? :-) thanks in advance.
Out this restaurants, the vasanthabhavan is one of the best for all above listed items with kind service and money worth also especially in wakra branch...
Thank you and appreciate for vasanthbhanvan....
above mentioned restaurants are just eating the money from customers only, food not worth that.
you can't find any pieces of vegetable like, drumstick, lady finger, bitterguard etc...... sambar also only gravy with tomoto pieces.
