Qtel's MTU and upload speed
By DesertRogue •
Hey guys
As Qtels website is soooooo useful.
and tech support are too lol
Can someone tell me a few things to tweak my router
FIrst and fore most
1) What is the stated MTU for Qtel to give the more efficient download speeds, with the fastest acces times for looking at websites.
2) What is the Recomment Encapsulation e.g VC/MUX, LLC ?
3)Whats the recommended protocal to be used? e.g PPPoA, PPPoE, RFC1482 Bridged etc.
And what is the stated upload speed for a Qtel 1mb Line?
Thanks
They dont have bad routers.
WHat he was saying is for 1mb connection the bandwidth is 128 K UPLOAD
and for 2mb connection its 256K UPLOAD
The download bandwidth is alway is higher than the upload due to it being called ADSL Asymetrical Digital Subscribers Line
Meaning One side is always faster than the other.
Some of you guys most have crappy routers or something. I have have a 2Mb pipe coming into my villa. When I test it I at or near 1.5Mb on slow days I'm around 1.1Mb.
here some users are able to use freely PPPOE connections (LLC Encap) where as some users can only use PPPOA (VCMUX).
I can use both types but use PPPOE..
VPI: 8
VCI: 35
QoS type: UBR (without PCR)
MTU: 1460 (As said from qtel)
this is good enuf for me..
Qtel package of 512 n 1 MB have same upload speed: 128 KBPS bandwidth
2 mb has 256 kbps bandwidth..
Basically, the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) is the size of the network "frame" that is sent along the network connection. You should use 1492 as the standard setting, but other values between 1490 and 1496 usually work. 1500 is too high for DSL here.
QTel seems to change their side's MTU on occasion, probably to knock all the wireless routers out of commission.
If you are using a speedtouch USB, the MTU will be automatically adjusted.
PPPoA and PPPoE both seem to work, so if one doesn't work the other should.
VC will always be 8-35
Hope this explains enough.
Thanks with MTU
1500 are u stilll able to send and receive emails from ur qtel pop3 account?
Not all subscribers have the same settings. I helped few friends setup their routers, and I have to call Qtel to get those parameters.
Anyways, my settings are: PPPoA, UBR, VC, 8VPI, 35VCI ,MTU 1500
