Qatar Foundation launches reading program for expectant mothers

In an aim to create a national drive to communicate the importance of reading and to create interest amongst all residents, Qatar Reads and Qatar National Library has announced the official launch of their Mommy to Be program. This unique initiative is designed to offer support to expectant mothers and those with newborns and toddlers aged 0-2 years old.
The program is divided into three phases: the pregnancy period; the postnatal period; and the child’s early years. The reading materials are curated by a committee of experts from Qatar National Library, while the workshops aim to equip expectant mothers with a range of practical skills, with topics ranging from prenatal yoga to reading for toddlers.

Aljazi T. Al-Henzab, Project Manager, Qatar Reads said, “To create a generation of readers and leaders, we need to plant the seeds of learning, curiosity, and creativity from an early age. And this is the overarching aim of Mommy to Be,”
“Mommy to Be is more than just a program. It provides access to educational reading materials, interactive workshops, and the opportunity to connect with likeminded people through discussions and networking events.”
“Ultimately, pregnancy is an exciting time in a mother’s life, but it can also cause stress and anxiety. So, through this initiative, we want to work hand-in-hand with our members to support them on their journey to motherhood, and as they navigate this period of their lives.”
Upcoming webinars include a discussion titled ‘What To Expect When You Are Expecting’ on with Dr. Mahmoud Zidan, a specialist from the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Hamad Medical Corporation on July 13.
The webinar sessions will be conducted in Arabic.
