I do not think there will be a big difference to Qatar, the country is already very rich, most fans and businesses will stay in Abu Dhabi or Dubai (more attractive), Bahrain and other neighboring countries.

The country governors want only to be renowned but they will pay very very expensive price for that (3 billion USD).

one event will cost a lot of money and the big contactors will be the luckiest. if Qataris look for fame they will get it for sure, but they will pay a leg and arm.

So the benefits for Qatar and its economy will be very marginal.

Countries in the Middle East still behave undemocratically and practice human trafficking and illegal deportation of expatriates.

I hope these money could be spent on eradicating poverty and human trafficking instead
