Unmarried female

I am an unmarried UK based female who has recently accepted a job in Doha and I am currently awaiting my residency visa to come through. My boyfriend plans to join me in Doha and he is currently looking for a job in order to get sponsorship in Qatar. However, we both want to live together but do not neccessarily want to get married. Is there any way to live together unmarried in Doha? Is it illegal? Do you know of any couples who live together and are unmarried? What advice if any do you have??

You mean you write this in the contract? Like: I'll “marry this woman for two months!!!!!

Welll, If you wanted an Islamic answer I could’ve answered :-P.I don't know about the legality of it from a material point of view ..

Easy Super7, mj is kinda right. He meant the origin ..ie: that it's only for Muslims..It's like Muslims getting married in church, you know what I mean...It doesn't count like a real marriage ...but apparently it happens. So both of you are right but from different aspects :-D

Cheers!

Super is absolutely right. Christians living in a muslim country are entitled to be married in sharia court. You just need to make sure that you have all relevant documents with you and translated. The court should guide you on what is necessary.

If you eventually decide to make it a more permenant (and UK legal) arrangement, all you need to do is have the marriage certificate endorsed by the British Embassy.

No you are not right Qcat. My canadian friend got a sharia marriage here to live with her boyfriend.

The legal system here is sharia (the islamic legal system) so basically a sharia marriage is what iin west would be a civil ceremony. However it is a lot less involved than civil ceremony with fewer "obligations"

I think it might be better to not break any laws and perhaps consider getting married. It also feels a bit disrespectful the culture

Many people do it, but I've met people who've been burned for it and are no longer in the country. You have to be careful. Even you have to agree with that SUper. And yes, what is Sharia marriage.

Many thanks. Sorry for being ignorant, but what is a Sharia marriage?

Loads of people do it. Other option is a sharia marriage. Pretty easy to get done, gives you right to do all married things here and isn't a civil contract so you are not "officially" married in UK terms

It's very illegal. You both risk jail time and expulsion from the country if you are discovered. People do it, but the risk is there, especially if your employer (or his) finds out.
