Well ordering online is always the thing here in Qatar... I did it with a lot of things.
But my patience is limited when it comes to new "toys"... when I want it, then I want on the spot :-).
There is two types of dosing pumps, peristaltic hose pumps and piston pumps.
In hospitals they have both, the peristaltic ones where the hose is fed through the system for blood "filtering" etc. . The piston one are like the ones that can take a syringe. Both are very expensive when it comes to medial systems.
I have not seen any second hand medical equipment for sale !
But never the less I could ask my medical supplier if he has a cheap chinese version or so...
A small peristaltic head usually costs around 75QR, plus a small controller... so I might order at one point a couple go in to business with them in Qatar !
"It's mine...my precious....the ring it's mine...."
Plankton, i heard that dosing pumps being used in hospitals can also be used in tanks. Some reefers got theirs from hospitals who sold it as 'used'. Have you tried ordering it online?
i'm thinking of setting up a new tank but will keep non-photosynthetic corals, like dendronephthya, it's more difficult to care for so i'm still researching.
in europe we have either ready made units, usually consisting of 1 optical sensor, 1 low sensor to protect sump pump and 1 alarm sensor for over flow.
The actual pump that adds the fresh water is one 12V pump, found as camping or boat accessory. All you need is a 12V supply and a sensor that is capable of driving the pump.
My sump designs usually have one chamber for the top off water, connected via a U-pipe that reaches over the dividing wall in to the sump chamber. Just make sure the U-pipe does not go down very far, or you will syphon all the fresh water out of the chamber after the first activation of the pump. It will just keep flowing until there is no water left :-)... a small hole drilled in the pipe can do the trick too, air will be sucked in once the pump stops and the flow will come to a end.
I wish I could get a dosing pump here in Doha... the ones for pools are just way to expensive... but that is another story and I would love to use it for my lime water.
t_coffee I could help you with these... Among other I design large scale marine aquarium systems, mainly for public displays... but I have a tiny one here for me and a larger one 1000 Liter back in switzerland, incl. all kinds of corals.
have you checked the shop which is near cleopetra travels or the shop in al nasser street or the animal market or thursday friday market or hmm where else.
t_coffee, i asked 4 petshops (in Dubai) if they know of any glass shops that can drill the tank according to my specified size.... *sigh* they don't know any.
t_coffee what kind of lighting do u have now? sure you can keep a mini reef even without the MHs (metal halides) but you cannot keep corals that need very strong light like SPS (Small Polyped Sclerectinia).
btw, how's the sump going? have u got a design now? i think it will be hard to find a glass shop in Doha that will drill the glass (for the drain and return pipe).
I suggest you visit www.reefland.com, a forum for reefers . Search the archive and you'll find lots of designs and ideas. If you wanna throw some queries you'll receive lots of good responses esp from Ninong.

Plus I always include fresh water storage in to it
as well, so that the evaporated water can be topped off automatically.
Marc
hi Marc, how do you do this auto top-off... with a dosing pump?
I have enough space below the tank
[img_assist|nid=50852|title=hmm|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
I am not in to the gallon thing... so is a imperial or US gallons you measuring with ?
My local Doha one is the size of you future sump... but lack of time has proven that it was the right joyce to keep it low profile.
A new one with approx 1500liter in in planning for my living room, but all the commercial ones have priority since they are paying projects :-).
How much space you have for your sump ? Its a great way to increase overall volume
to make a as large as possible sump... Plus I always include fresh water storage in to it
as well, so that the evaporated water can be topped off automatically.
Marc
That would be cool thanks i also have a tiny one its only 50 G
How can we meet

i didn't have a sump in my old tank that's why it's a pain in the *** for the regular water changes and other maintenance.
