SNORING PROBLEM...help?!?

azilana7037
By azilana7037
It's embarrassing to admit but this is getting to be a concern lately.
I know I have a snoring problem especially when I'm too tired to the bones.  I know its normal to snore once in a while, but not everyday. I remember my mother saying that she had an adenoid operation when she was a child, maybe it's genetic/hereditary.
Maybe Sinus ? or is it due to smoking or being diabetic?
A doctor/friend already said it's NOT Sleep Apnea.
And to think I lost an adequate amount of weight, lessened smoking (as I couldn't quit cold turkey), and sleeping on my side.
Any OTC (Over The Counter) medicine that you guys could reconmmend...or a doctor/specialist perhaps?
Any advise/recommendations would be highly appreciated...thanks in advance.

I tried everything:

- nose strip

- nasal spray

- throat spray

-losing weight...

But I found the best MEDICATION...SLEEP ALONE...lmao

side might cure  your snoring altogether. Best posture is turn on your right side

I have it quite bad also.

The biggest problem I have with snoring is that when I am really tired I wake myself up just as I am falling asleep.

Then I am aware that I am about to sleep and about to snore, so I end up walking around the room unable to sleep.

It's no fun I can tell you.

I blame smoking for causing me to snore BTW.

But here's what I already did:

- I lost 8 kilos already....from 82kgs, i'm down to 74...

- from 3 packs a day, I was able to lessen it to one pack...Yup, i'm nearly there.

- I seldom drink alcohol...If i do, 2 glasses is enough...

- I even put a pillow behind me so I would sleep on my side.

What else to do??? :-(((

hello everyone

this is something from the mayo clinic website. hope it helps...

causes of snoring.....

. Your mouth anatomy. Having a low, thick soft palate or enlarged tonsils or tissues in the back of your throat (adenoids) can narrow your airway

Alcohol consumption. Snoring also can be brought on by consuming too much alcohol before bedtime. Alcohol acts as a sedative, relaxing throat muscles.

Nasal problems. Chronic nasal congestion or a crooked partition

obstructive sleep apnoea.

self care!!!

If you're overweight, lose weight. Being overweight is a common cause of snoring. Loose throat tissues are more likely to vibrate as you breathe, and extra bulkiness in the throat narrows your airway.

Sleep on your side. Lying on your back allows your tongue to fall backward into your throat, narrowing your airway and partially obstructing airflow. To prevent sleeping on your back, try sewing a tennis ball in the back of your pajama top.

Nasal strips. Adhesive strips applied to your nose help many people increase the area of their nasal passage, enhancing their breathing.

Treat nasal congestion or obstruction. Having a deviated septum or allergies can limit airflow through your nose. This forces you to breathe through your mouth, increasing the likelihood of snoring. to correct a deviated septum you may need surgery.

Limit or avoid alcohol and sedatives. Avoid drinking alcohol at least four hours before bedtime, and let your doctor know about your snoring before taking sedatives or hypnotics.

if all that doesnt work consult an ent specialist and then a sleep disorder specialist.both are available at hmc.

do it right - the first time!

A deviated septum can also contribute to snoring but don't have it operated on as they usually come back, I found out the hard way!!!  But your nasal

canal then is smaller on one side and makes a problem.  I find sleeping on my side is better than laying on my back. Good luck

sorry azi...just popped into my head!

Snoring is a very involved matter..can be a LOT of individual things or a lot of things added together...

Have you been tested for sleep apnea? I honestly do not think someone can diagnois sleep apnea just on a visual exam...requires a sleep test to see the extent of it and to verify.

Adnoids DO have an effect on snoring...as do allergies or sinus problems. have you tried those nasal strips that help open up your nose?

Good luck, hon...I know it can be very annoying...
