Selecting a new car from premier companies
By shuaibqazi •
Hi All.
I am plannig to buy a new car, preferably an SUV.. And thinking to go for top of the range models like Range Rover Sport 2014, Cayenne, Porsche Macan, X5, ML350.. Main characteristics I am looking for are sporty, quick luxurious car. Can anybody guide me in selection process. Specifically looking for advice on post buying servicing, maintenance.
Will appreciate advice from previous or current owners

Thanks ronz.. I drove the ML today.. Not bad,, but not as sporty as the RR 2013.. I agree with you in terms of 2013 vs 2014 RR.. So now i have yet to drive RR and also to check the SRT.. I don't know, its becoming tougher to chose in between.. Do you have any info on the maintenance issues and costs..
ohhh yes ! after reading your post "thinking to go for top of the range " actually I was under the impression that you are gonna opt for high end 'variants'....
Anyhow Macan S is still 140bhp less than SRT at a same price of '2.5la'.
Meanwhile the 2014 facelifted X5 is also a good option mainly c'se now it offers a 7 seat option as well.
& IMO better you don't go for 2013 RR Sport c'se the pre facelift variant will cost you very badly if you are gonna trade it in 5 years down the line. Try for a 2014 facelifted Supercharged version, now available at Qatar for 3.7la. It's a brutal machine like SRT, the 510hp engine generates epic sound once you push down the throttle & offers the best luxury interior an SUV can. A very good package it is overall.
Thanks all and especially ronz for a comprehensive reply.. That helped.. I have personally driven the macan in the porsche showroom.. The macan S.. Its 340 hp and very quick agile car.. I drove the cayenne standard.. Not the turbo or turbo S.. The 6 cylinder cayenne. It wasn't as impressive in acceleration as the macan.. may be because i was going on the lower end range.. Can the X5 be not considered good in terms of "something of everything" a bit of sports, good of luxury..? I haven't driven the ML or the new RR sport.. I drove the RR sport supercharged 2013 model.. That has 510 hp, and that was awesome acceleration..
You gave the option of the jeep.. That is a very nice car.. Will drive that also..
Do you or anybody else have info on the maintenance costs of the all the 4 cars (X5, ML, Cayenne, RR sport)
And yes, I am planning to buy the 6 cylinder medium option cars amongst these rather than going for the high end like autobiography or the turbo S..
Since you are concern about a 'sporty, quick luxurious car', first of all we should omit The Macan, X5 & ML c'se comparing to the remaining two (RR Sport & Cayenne) those cars are not up to compete these two in sport, quick or luxury.
Now out of Sport & Cayenne, the Cayenne's top end variant 'Turbo S' is truly a monster when it comes to power. It can cruise 0-100 in just 4.5 sec with a massive torque of 750nm along with a 550hp of power the engine generates & while coming into the RRS, the top end variant 'RR Sport Autobiography' offers more of a sporty & luxury effect rather than power. Still it can cruise 0-100 in just 5.3 sec at a torque of 624nm & 510hp plus a 5.0ltr V8 engine compared to Cayenne's 4.8ltr V8.
Both are pricing in the range of 6la though.
But IMO there is one more macho SUV that suits all your needs. It’s sporty, it’s quick & almost a luxury SUV at just a half of the price of an Sport or a Cayenne. “The 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT” it is, one of the most aggressive-looking SUV on the market. Its 6.4l Hemi powered V8 engine is simply outstanding. Once you kick the throttle down the music it generates through the dual exhaust is quite enough to understand what an SRT is all about, you know. It can touch the 0-100 needle in just 5 seconds at a 630nm torque and 465bhp. Also the pricing is the most important factor, you can get one for just 2.5la now. Almost half of the money you can save in compare to RRS & Cayenne. Moreover you can stand apart from the over crowded RR Sport & Cayennes on Qatar tarmacs as well.
Sit back, think & go for a test drive…All the best.
Go for an RR. No worries at all from any side.
buy lamborghini...u will look great while you are driving.....
