Second hand car advice and insurance

Hi, I am looking to buy a car here, probably a 4x4 and just wanted some advice on what to look for? I've been told landcruiser's and Nissan Patrol's are the best, also Jeep Wrangler is a good bet.

I have heard that insurance companies do not offer fully comprehensive insurance for cars over 6 years old, can anyone confirm/correct this?

I also heard that it can be very hard to get registration for an older car. The government here are trying to get everyone to buy new cars apparently?!

Any general advice on what to look for and what to avoid when looking at a 2nd hand 4x4?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for the advice, I will see what I can find. I have taken a couple of 4x4's already to the German Auto Centre for computer testing, but for one reason or another they were not suitable.

I'll keep on looking...

Hard to find good second hand 4x4 especially if you are looking to find a Landcruiser or a Patrol. I was car hunting for about 6 months and I very rarely came across a second hand Patrol.

Anyways, the point is you are much better off buying a new 4x4 unless you are going for one of the not so common brands...

PS: Generic tip while buying a car, low mileage, newer model, get a comp check done to find the engine compression and those guys check the gear shift as well...
