Resignation

Hi all,

I came to Qatar on a visit visa in January 2010 and landed myself a job in one of the private firms in Qatar. My company brought me back to qatar in March 2010 on a business visa intially and I resumed duties in March itself. My resident permit was done during the mid of April' 10. What looked to be a nice job intially has really turned out be a bad one. First the management refused to give the copy of the employment contract to me and now asking me to do things which does not tally with the designation given to me. Iam in my probation period of 6 months and I have decided to quit immediately. The notice period is one month. Can I resign and leave Qatar amicably? what are the repurcussions?...Kindly advise

all you need is to make them to cancel your RP. Bring your passport and insist on cancellation, make PRO to do his job. Do it 5-7 days prior to your departure. Once your RP is cancelled, you don't need an exit permit.

Make sure your bank account is settled in terms of liabilities, as your company must send a notification letter to your bank about your resignation, and if you have any liabilities with the bank, they usually block your account and they might block you from exiting Qatar, until all is settled. So make sure everything is cleared in the bank (loans, credit cards, etc.), and let your PRO cancel your RP, and you are free.

My suggestion is to consume the 1 month grace period for your resignation to take effect.

No company has the right to hold your resignation without due cause. As per your case, you decided not to continue your stay in the company.

Company should be the one reponsible for your exit permit fee, air tickets and other fees to be able to return to your home country. Kindly check your contract...

bleu, due to the archaic systems in place over here, where the businesses are protected over the individuals, what Arien suggests might be the most practical choice available.

Arien, what you are proposing is immoral, and the main reason for NOC and exit permits...

If they do not accept your resignation, you can always go to the labour department and file a complaint. If you are still under probation, I don't believe you have to serve a 1 month notice period either.

You need to insist to see your contract or speak to the labor department.

Thanks for the Positive reply Addi. But what if my employer fails to acknowledge my resignation? If they delay the process of giving my exit permit? what are my options?

Iam OK with the two year ban...I paid for the airfare completely...also bore 50% of the expenses incurred for procuring Visa & RP. All I want to do is leave without any trouble...

you all the expenses they incurred in bringing you here in Qatar. ANd if you have gone thru the process of getting your RP, the two year ban is in effect already to you!
