I am asking on behalf of my father 77-year old David Henson, who I am trying to return to UK in the winter of his life. David is a long term expatriate who has been in the Middle East working since 1976.

In 2011 he lost his job and began and ardent searched for further employment, however due to his age he was not able to take on the job that he had been promised and soon fell into debt over his living expenses and mostly rent. I helped him as much as I could in this period until he eventually had to move in with me and my family.

Sadly his health began to deteriorate through stress and lack of purpose. In this time and due to the very high cost of living in Qatar, his debts soon escalated close to 55,000 GBP for unpaid rent and utilities.

Over the last few years I have managed to reduce this to around 13,000 GBP, this has not been easy while supporting a young family and meeting my own financial obligations.

David suffered a stroke in 2014 which left him with very limited mobility and accumulating health problems including reduced movement, memory loss, slurred speech, dizziness and periods of confusion.

At the end of 2016 I was made redundant when my company downsized. At this point I sent my wife, 3-year-old and baby home to UK to live with family, but was unable to leave Qatar due to the need to support my father who is entirely dependent on myself for care and financial support. Currently we have no income and are making do as best we can while living with a good friend.

On the 2nd of February 2017 David suffered a severe cardiac event and stopped breathing for a time. He was rushed to the main hospital in Qatar and kept in the critical care ward for 3 days. He is now even more fragile but recovering slowly albeit with even less energy and stability than before.

It is my dear wish to return my father to UK by settling his outstanding debts, legal fees and expenses so that he can be home with his family for his last years. All of his remaining expenses including bills and even flights to get him home comes to around 13,500 UK Pounds, this is what I am aiming for to get him back home before his time runs out.

Much as this has now put me and my family in financial crisis and I desperately need to return to my wife and very young children I cannot until I know my father is safe. I am not asking for any of the funds for myself I only ask for help in solving my fathers debts so that I can fulfil his only wish ‘not to die in the Middle East and be buried there away from UK'.

Thank you for your concern. We have tried everything, but as you know everything in Qatar takes time, which we don't have! It has been so frustrating. please if you could share the campaign on social media it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

We will do our best. I assume you have already tried the British embassy. Have you tried to contact The Emiri Divan and Red Crescent for help ?

Good luck!
