Hi guys. I renewed my registration last 5th february 2012 at Khalifa Traffic Department.

I saw a signage there saying " once you receive an SMS, come immediately to claim your new plate.. It's been 11 days now and I have not received any SMS from them.

Do I still have to wait for an SMS or it is better to just go directly to the Khalifa Traffic Department and enquire there if my plate is ready?

I renewed my istemnara on 12/12/11 and I received a SMS on 17/12/11 asking me to go to Khalifa Traffice Dept.(Thats where I got my renewal done)and get the new plate with 30 days of the receipt of SMS. If more than 30 days, charges will be applicable.

I went to Khalifa traffic last week on Saturday and I could see cars queued up for new plates. There is a guy who removes the old plates and installs the new one. Just behind where he is located with his electrical equipments, there is a small door. The guy asked me to go inside and collect the new plates. I went inside and showed the istemara on the counter and he checked in his system and gave me the new plate which was already ready with him. Took the plates, came back to car and got into the queue to get it changed. The same guy removed the old one and installed the new one.

Follow the same steps and there you are...

if you want to renew the registration u need:

1- original istemara

2- insurance copy

3- technical inspection if ur car is more than 3 years old.

4- debit/credit card to pay the renewal fees (Q.R.100)

if you registered in "METRASH service" you will get SMS notification once the new plates are ready.

at the time of registration renewal, the traffic police dept. where you are submitting the renewal papers will renew the registration and tell you to come after one week to receive your new number plate free of cost.

if you don't want to wait till that time you can go now to any traffic police dept. and demand for new plates but they will charge you Q.R.100 for each.
