Dear mariam perhaps u didnt read my post. Plz read the FYI section again and again until u understand the last word of it.

Wolfman,

Guarantor is used as a additional security.

Which means in case the person who has take the loan defaults on his payment, the guarantor has to pay on his behalf. I said to get a guarantor just for assurance to the bank that this guy wont default in his future payments. In between he has to pay his monthly payment on his own or the guarantor will be penalized. And yes a guarantor will ensure u wont end up in jail(Depends case to case but most of the time u r safe). Any property possesed by a individual outside Qatar wont be accepted as a mortguage or security because it does not fall in Qatars judristriction which does not allow any bank in qatar the rights to liquidify the said property (this too depends on the severity of the case). The loan contract is signed under the laws of Qatar.

The best option u have in this case is Mortguage the Property back in your home country bring the money here and pay ur debts.

But in the above case the Guy can just liquidify the property and pay his debts here and save him self.

"The strenght of a man can only be measured by his ablity to forgive"

~~Adios~~

i know some people who's in a worse situation than mariz' friend.

maverickss,

thanks for the advice/ solution you offered mariz.

slightly off the topic question, are guarantors enough to ensure that the guy won't be jailed or should there be a surety?

also, in the case that no guarantors step in, can he use the property from his native country as colateral assuming that the bank operates internationally?

sorry for my ignorance regarding bank laws here in qatar but it seems you have an extensive bacground on the subject.

thanks in advance!!!

There are a few things u can do in this situation.

I dont care if the story that u have said is true or not. But its a problem which i would like to put my opinion on.

1) Since u mentioned his family is here, does his wife have a job in Qatar. If yes, is she in any position to help financialy. The people who know him very well and know that he is not a cheat have to step in. Example people like u and ur husband. 2 people guarenting for a guy would ensure that, due to the loan he has with the bank he wont wind up in jail(2 guys as garantors would be an exception given by the bank). There is a lot of math calculation involved in this, in regards to the Obligation criteria which is 50% as per QCB, So u need some one as a garantor who has a handsome salary and a minium Obligation or a QATARI GUY.

2) If the wife doesnt have a job she needs to search for one. Or she should take her children and leave Qatar ASAP. and find a job back in her own country. to make a contribution (financialy) to solve this matter.

3)U mentioned in ur post that they used the money to build a house back in their home country. I dont see any need for that now. Ask them to sell it off and pay a partial payment to the bank. Infact in ur post u mentioned he has paid already for 4 yrs. If so his debt to the bank would be nearly bit more than 1/4th of the loan amount he has taken. So by selling property that they have, he can pay of the loan and a handsome amount on his credit cards. Doing this he will buy time for himself. To look into making serious money, finding a Job etc.

4)For the cheques that have bounced he needs to spk to the bank and the legal Dept and find a solution since the case has already been registered.

And ofcourse make sure he gets in touch with a lawyer for legal procedings.

FYI

THE GUYS WHO FEEL THAT 300,000 Loan is hard to get. Sorry to say, but u guys were so sleepy that the world around u changed, but u were not able to notice. Before the finincial crisis (resession) happend banks were lending like crazy and this guy took loan 4 yrs back when DOHA WAS ON A MAD RUSH TO GIVE LOAN, THE GUYS WORKING IN PERSONAL LOAN DEPT MADE A COMMISION OF 65,000Qr per Month. Ask any seasoned person who was involved in this mad rush. He took a huge loan sent it to his home country. Invested in fixed deposit. The interest he got from inital deposit was more than the interest he paid here. Or he invisted in property.

But thats maths that u guys wont understand cause ur tag line is " I AM CONTENT WITH WHAT I GET" the best tag line for a looser.

In between Mariz if u need help mail me @ [email protected].

Something as simple as borrowing money says a lot about a person. Not to be mean here, but it seems obvious that he had it coming. That doesn't seem like a reasonable amount of debt considering the salary is only QR9k. If a grown man puts himself in that position, it makes him a fool. We can't all be winners.

"for almost 4 years they dont stop helping others.and some of his friends they borrow money but now they dont return his money" --- sorry to sound like a selfish one here, but if he and his family were in such a mess already, how come he still went on lending money to others? don't get me wrong, i don't have anything against helping others, i am all for it, but only to the extent of what you can give... it's ok to say no to someone borrowing money if you really dont have the means of doing so...

mariz01...have u read my comment? qouted: "hey mariz tell us. im excited to know how it happened...."

any smiling face u can see from my post? any hahahaha?

we want details... you posted and you actually opened up the idea of having that huge amount of loan. In this time where in some of us is on crisis who will not be interested in your friend's husband story?

It's not a crime to look after the welfare of his family but he should know his limitation in lending money.

Life is not always about money, it's living in simplier ways and be contented.... and life is not about spreading rumors about your friend's husband. If you want my advice, try to lend them money.

If i got you irritated because i had myself involved in your post, I can just imagine how your friend will feel if she founds out you posted her problem in QL without her knowing......

but anybody that gets themselves in debt over here is a an idiot.

If this story is true, shame on the banks for lending so much money to this person who does not earn enough to pay it.

anyway, mariz, if you can giv us, the people who are willing to help your friend, some more details, we would be more than happy to think of a way to resolve this. youre very welcome to PM me if you're afraid of what others will say but very advisable if you just post it here and ignore the scrutinies.

Am I correct in my understanding that if an employee skips out on his loans/obligations the sponsor will be asked to pick up the tab? If that's the case, I can't see your friend's husband being hired with 300,000 QR of unpaid debt (as a cook/waiter?!) Sorry.
