My Driving School and Driving Test Experience

By ryshe10

I just want to share my experience with regards to obtaining a driver's license in qatar, currently I'm still on the process of training, as of this moment,
its my 27th day/hour for the practical driving, I have already taken my theory test which is all about signs and situationals, but majority were all signs, I don't
know if next month or in the next couple of months they will be implementing the violations and amounts you need to pay for the theory test, anyways, all
I can say was, at first I thought the exam would be hard, (theory test) I have no clues with what would be the questionnaires but Mr. samson (Al Khebra) just taught
us some of the signs which he thinks would come out of the examination, and indeed it was, but my theory test experience was not as easy as a walk in the park, here
is my story:

I came to the driving school at around 6:45 am, I directly went to the testing area and waited for my turn, it was a long queue but we patiently waited, (fast forward)
now it was my time to finally take the exam, when I was already sitting in my designated computer I was brightful in answering the questions being shown in my monitor,
everything went smoothly and easily for me because the signs that came out were the ones which I reviewed most. now its time for the police to announce the passers, I was
confident enough that I passed my exam, since I saw in my monitor a check sign which means I passed. finally, my no. was called, all smiles hail on my face
when all of a sudden they told me that my PC has incured problems when it came to the registration part and I failed, my heart suddenly palpitated and the smile on my face all wiped-out,
during those moments I felt disappointed and exhausted, all the agonizing late nights reviewing and memorizing were all gone, but here comes the fun part,
with what could have been a sudden twist of fate and to my surprise, the police fortunately gave me immediate second chance, the good part with the second chance was all sets of question
were just as same as the previous one, except for the "Bridge Hump" sign. but luckily I was able to answer it correctly and then the Al Khebra Staff, immediately told me
"Mabrook you passed", *sigh* big relief. Imagine the time and efforts lost if that could have gone the other way around. Now one challenge already removed, 3 more to come,
next up Box parking, Ramp test and the Notorious "Road Test." I will be updating you once I had those three exams. Till then, Happy driving.

Driving would be so much nicer here if they not only checked on a drivers ability but also if the individual actually has a brain. In so many near Asia countries someone who herds goats is considered to be a driver.

I totally agree with your comments whiteleyp. you would never get away with a test like that in the UK. And i cant believe that they dont do any reverse parking or 3 point turn tests. I mean most people don't know whose right of way it is at a roundabout.

Thankfully, i didn't have to sit for such a test. The other day, some colleagues told me that the instructor failed everyone on their practicals cos he was in a bad mood - and they hadn't even taken the test.

The test here in Qatar is way to easy, it needs to be harder and more rigorous to stop the below par driving on the roads and endangering the rest of us and I mean all nationalities just because you can drive for 15-20mins in a test does not mean you can drive. Qatar needs to introduce new rules for new drivers like lower powered cars, not driving between certain hours, have to have a sign to display these are new drivers so other drivers are aware they lack experience and above all not let them drive HGV's.

whoever want a driving license in Qatar should first think to get a PHD degree from some foreign institution. it will be easy than that.

i am waiting for my road test. passed the other tests, but wasted my last 2 months in running here n there in Al Rayah school. it will cost me around 5000QR due to using taxi.

First of all. I dont think you can go directly to a test ( without any classes) unless you get it in writing from the captain. I had a Dubai license which got expired in 2012, also have a valid Indian license. I had to go and meet the captain to see if there would give me any exemptions. I was given a chance to appear directly for the test. But I preferred to take a short course of 12 classes though I have driven in dubai for almost 7 years. Driving in real and driving for the test is completely different. You generally dont observe half of the rules in real driving, that you are supposed to observe while driving for a test, so better get a feel of those rules before you appear for the test. I have just passed by theory test and started with my road classes. Let me also tell you that the signal test was not a piece of cake as I expected it to be. Though I managed to pass, the next 2 who came out of the room didnt manage to pass.. All the best

Be aware of your car’s limits and never try to push your car to do something it clearly cannot easily do. For example, always leave enough time when overtaking so you don’t get stuck trying to accelerate. Be familiar with the amount of pressure you need to put on the brakes. @afsar: yeah its true you can go for direct Test but remember one thing if u got fail then you have to attend all classes which is of 30 or 40 Days its better to go for short course first and you will get more chances for test...

well done! mabrouk.

agree with your tip (always remember the routines): memorise them by number; 1 seat, 2 mirror, 3 seat belt,... thus the moment you go in the car, you know there is 7, 8 or x things to do, and do them one by one.

By ryshe10• 28 May 2013 07:20
ryshe10

As for my driving I was satisfied with the way I performed, I just did what my Instructor had told me to do, and memorize the routine every countless nights I go to my driving school, even the police was very nice to me, my good tip for aspiring drivers here in Qatar is to always remember the routines and all the things your instructor will teach you, of course not all instructor are like that, lucky for me the one that was assigned to me taught all the necessary things in order for me to pass, another thing is to come there early and make sure at the road test, ensure that you are either the first, second, third up until the fourth to take up the road test, that time I was the second to take

By ryshe10• 28 May 2013 07:16
ryshe10

Thank you guys for your comments whether it may be good or bad, let's promote healthy exchanges of comments rather than wild comments which could lead to petty fracas, anyways

now I'm happy to announce that I have passed the exam at my first try, and I must say I was very elated with my performance. Good thing was that the police that was handling our test was of good mood and he was very upbeat and patient, but some guys do failed with the exam due to nervousness and forgot their routine which is to adjust the mirrors, seats and indicate if your going right or left, nevertheless, the margin of passing rate in our school was overwhelmingly high.
