LEGAL RIGHTS FOR EXPATS

Hello everyone,

I would greatly appreciate to know, where you can turn to for help, if you end up in one of the following prejudicial situations :

1. Renting or leasing: when the ‘renter’ or the ‘leaser’ fails to respect the clauses of the agreement.
2. Merchandising: when the product delivered is different from the one you ordered or is damaged, and you get no positive reaction from the merchant.
3. Contractual disagreements: when your contract conditions are not being respected.
4. Payment for services: when you cannot get paid for services you have rendered.

Could someone briefly describe the legal system in Qatar and its accessibility to Expats. Thank you!

I apologize for the boring subject, but I think it will useful for those who care about rights and duties.

I believe Qatari, this could be an interesting topic for the Handbook.

Moudir, I have had two of the problems you mentioned in your first post and I was quite curious to see the advice offered ... but it seems as if seeing a lawyer is the only way to go! Thanks for trying to raise awareness in this area.

Thank you all for the responses. Thank you Butterfly also for your suggestion.

As i have no legal problems right now (i'm not even there yet!), i was looking forward to finding out more about the judicial ( or legal ) system in Qatar and how QatarLiving members had to deal with prejudicial disputes or conflicts in their daily lives.

The impression i get; not too many people on this site, know about the legal system in Qatar.

A Greek philosopher once said, "Awareness is the enemy of happiness...", n'est-ce-pas ? :)

There are some things that lawyers can't help or fix. If the problem is with your employer for instance, hiring a lawyer might not accomplish much (then again it might, it depends).

I would still contact the lawyer and the relevant embassy/consulate first. Gulf Times gives advice that comes handy only if it matches what you are looking for.

Moudir,

I suggest you visit www.gulf-times.com and www.thepeninsulaqatar.com.

Both have a "law" section: gives different cases scenarios that may arise when working and living in Doha and how the court deals with them.

useful info.

I think you will get the kind of advice you are paying for. Free advice is worth very little unless it is in context.

Thank you Martin, but for now, i am only looking for personal opinions and experiences from QatarLiving members, rather than legal advice.

I believe this site has great potential for developing awareness.
