Layover in Doha...

I live in Doha, and my friend has a 4 hour layover in Doha this summer! Her ticket says "no stopovers" but does anyone know if there are any problems with her buying a visa at the airport (US citizen) and getting out of the airport for a couple of hours. Anyone had someone do this before?

Thanks!

i just never thought about it.. but to be honest, i wouldn't think of leaving the airport if i had only 4 hours between flights.. you never know where you can get stuck...better don't take a chance...

anything over 5hrs is classed as a stopover that is why you are allowed to leave the airport as taxes and duty will be included on your ticket so you may do this if you wish. anything under 5rs is a layover and no tax or duty will be added to your ticket so you won't be able to leave the airport.

But you show them one when you pass through immigration to leave right? well all your ticket info is attached to your passport via your ticket number. Even if she was able to get through immigration to leave the airport she would have a helava time getting back through immigration in as she is no designated for a stop over in Doha therefore she should not have left the airport and this is when her problems will start.

she just can't. She just stays there 'til her connecting flight is on.

Visa on arrival is another thing.

When she tries to get back into the airport they will see that it was a non-stopover ticket

they never ask for any tickets... she will get a visa in 2 minutes on the passport control..

but 4 hours is too short time.. don/t forget, it will take about 30-40 minutes to get our of the airport.. and then she has to check in to her next flight about 1.5 hour prior to the flight.. so what left over? 1 hour??? keep in mind an awful doha's traffic...

but i once i had a layover in London for about 8-9 hours.. i enjoied a lot exploring London’s centre…. It was amazing… well later I came there for over a week… but at that time I didn’t have any problem to get out of the airport...

I have never shown immigration any airline ticket... just my passport... And when family has come they just tell them they are visiting me, pay their 50 QR and here they are...

Her ticket info will tell them that she hasn't paid duties or taxes for Doha so they'll stop her right there. Yes QA will know that she has left the air port as she will have to show her bording pass to get back through immigration in departures. The fact is they will stop her from going through immigration to leave the airport anyway. Just remember this is not the states this is qatar and basically QA pretty much owns the airport.

Do you really think immigration will inform QA that she left the airport in Doha? How would QA know?

I think they may not allow you to come out of the airport. She will be placed in transit section. But if there are some different rules for Us citizens then I don't know frankly...

She has paid no duty or airport taxes for doha so they more than likley wont even let her through immigration. No Stop Overs usually means exactly that if she goes through immigration at Doha then her ticket can be voided which means she will not be able to catch her onward flight with out purchasing another ticket.
