hi there......i am amazed to see all the posts because i had been thinking that Cambridge was one of the top ten schools. Now...

i happen to read this blog after getting an offer from the Cambridge School as a Mathematics teacher but unfortunately they are offering only 4000 including house allowance and transport charges. The offer is very shocking as i was expecting atleast 7000..

please guide me. i dont feel like i am cheated on....

If anyone gets a job offer from this school please don't accept it. It is better to starve. They will cheat you from day one of working there. They are experts in cutting the teachers salaries over trivial matters. If the students fight in class your salary is cut 500 riyals, sit down in the classroom its 200 riyals, late to class by 5 minutes 100 riyals cut, late for duty 120 riyals. They will find all sorts of ways to deduct money from your salary.

The students are the worst behaved. Back answer teacher, abuse them, fight in the class, don't obey anyone. Teachers have been assaulted many times by students. Security guards who are supposed to remove such students from the class take no action because they are regularly bribed by the students.

There are cameras in all areas of the schools watching the teachers. Students can do ask they please.

Most teachers quit after 1 month because they are literally tortured here. If you try to violate the contract you are threatened with $25,000 law suit.

How would you describe the accommodation? Are you still over there?

This is enough to make my decision, I knew something wasn't right... too good to be true. Whats the accommodation like?

Hi

I have finished my one year with Cambridge high school Doha the following are the reason I would not recommend for pupils and teacher to join (only go if it is last resort);

• I have never experienced so much bad management in my life; I can write a book on how to not manage a school.

• Head teacher (David Thorpe)has failed off stead in UK and cannot get a job in UK

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/humber/3737481.stm

The staffs do not trust him; once I came to him to ask about an issue, which affected my teaching. I did 6 lessons a day, break duty and bus duty all day therefore no time to go to toilet so I asked him “when I will have time for toilet” he told me “to ask another teacher she knows how to hold it in all day. “

• The Director is an Indian (Shankar -all staff hates him and do not understand how he became director) and his cronies as middle managers and I would not let then run a corner shop forget manage a school. They got no people skills and all they do is monitor and deduct salary of staff for petty reasons. They only care making as much money from staff and pupils as they have shares in profit. All classrooms have camera instead of projectors.

• They advertise 23 pupils a class but there are usually 30 pupils of mixed ability and with no behavior support given are job is to keep pupils busy with no school policy.

• Majority of teachers are not coming back as they have been treated like labors, even in the last day we had wait in a line for to receive our cheque a day before we had to leave. Some cheque even bounced. Staff turnaround is very high they lose 30 teachers a year.

• Education standard is very low as it is easy to admit (no exam) pupils in this school basically any pupil who cannot get place in any other school come here and here they inflate the exam mark so parents do not complain.

I have send the link to management as I want them to improve their standard of education I do not believe it is fair on the learners and the staff and there is many more issue that I can talk about but I do not want to waste too much time talking about this school.

Since I have worked there, I have some special advice for you. Please don't accept the offer. You will struggle a lot. You can not find a single staff happy there. The management is the worst. They won't have a job description because you will have to do everything they say. There are many who were recruited as secondary teachers but appointed as KG teachers and given the half of the actual offer. I quit the school because all my colleagues advised me to escape before signing the contract. So please think twice or thrice before you sign. Thank you and Best of Luck!

How low can they go? That's really rock bottom for a professional, qualified teacher.
