It rained today!... and we lost a million liters of fresh water :-(

It might rain tomorrow and again we will loose a million liters of fresh water

#Energy World Qatar... We talk of saving water and the moment a drop of fresh water lands on earth we have ensured that all this fresh water goes to the sea within minutes of its landing on earth. for that we have spent millions on creating vast network of SWD (Surface Water Drainage) pipelines to take this life on earth right into the sea.

Then we spend billions to desalinate e the same water into "fresh water".

The cheapest way was to create temporary flooding areas (TFA) or Step Tanks to hold this water so as to recharge the ground water.

see link for step tank: http://www.indiamike.com/files/images/69/00/11/pushkarni-step-water-tank.jpg

Such tanks (TFA or Step Tanks) must be there in EVERY Municipality to ensure higher water table.... and PLEASE AVOID SPENDING MILLIONS BUILDING SWDs... pipe it to the nearest TFA or Step Tank... so difficult.

This is true not only in Qatar but in All countries... even in India.

at least it could recharge the underground water table... and much cheaper too...

PlugInCaroo: Collected rain water would not be readily drinkable. it would still require filtration systems to make it so.

typo... "How" can then it be justified to build such massive SWD networks running up to millions?

Brit... who can then it be justified to build such massive SWD networks running up to millions?

The above network is just in a small area of qatar? ;-)

"It is linked to a pumping station with a capacity of 19 cubic meters per second to discharge storm water through an offshore outfall several kilometers away from the shoreline to ensure the protection of the shoreline and its surrounding environment." Offshore outfall = pumping into sea.

...and I caught a glimpse of Malabari cafeteria near Wakrah catching the rainwater in teapot to make delicious hot tea and he was giving poppadams for free to all the land cruisers who cared to stop by...

The amount of rain in Qatar doesn't justify the costs of building these tanks. In India maybe .. Not here..

No problem. The water isn't "lost", it doesn't leave the planet.
