My Qtel Thomson router disconnects every 5 or 10 minutes, I was under the impression that maybe there is some faulty internet connection or line.This has been bothering me since the past 5 days.
Anyone have any suggestion.I'm quite vexed by my Modem/router.

thanks so much, but unfortunately my own home gateway-fibre to home does not have a "WLAN".I am surprise seeing that yours has it.

i still can't see the column where i can change my wifi network name and password.

i have gone to the wlan tap, their i saw IPTV,VOIP,INTERNET.

Then i clicked on the internet, but i couldn't see where i can change it.

change name and save

Guys, It is the router?modem of Thomson. Many ADSL customers are facing this issue. I used to get problem once a while but the next door is always facing this trouble.

you can replace your thompsun router as i did. i bought one from soffitel and ask the guy to install 150 fee and since then never have problem.its 5 years now.by the way i bought the router at qr. 480.i hope this will stop your problem permanently.

gore1876, i really don't know this small computer icon at the taskbar says "speed 24MBps".

I am not much of a computer wizz, earlier it showed 11MBPs and like a month ago it was 50MBps.

t_coffee_or mine is stable at 24Mb/s now.looks like its ok.Lets hope it stays think way or else my modem is up for sale, 250Qrs if anyone os interested, the new one is like 220QRs.Only serious buyers, no discounts.250Qrs or more.

Cabbage is still the highest bidder.LOL

Cabbage ,My dear i think the problem with my modem/router is contageous.I wouldn't wanna be drinking that beer and then transfering the problem to me.Then you'll be having a seantrump' "seantrump error, temporarily disconnected".

Cabbage, i am selling my modem would you wanna buy it for like 250Qrs.A brand one costs 220Qrs.What do you say?LOL

Guys to check if there is a cable problem try going to www.pingtest.net and do a ping test. Click on Begin test and let it choose a good server automatically. check your packet loss, if high then cable issue.

Then to check your download and upload speed go to www.speedtest.qa.

I had some problems with mine, then changed the router and also found out my connection was downgraded from 4mb to 1mb and took them 2 weeks to fix that, but its all good now.

I get the same thing - I just pull out the black lead at the back - count to 20 - guzzle a G&T and wait. That seems to work for me :-)

@Seantrump, call QTEL again to come then prepare CAT6 Cable from their main box to your ADSL (white)box inside the house. i dont how long the cable you will need. but they don't provide it for us. that's the problem with QTEL, not a full service.

when you hard reset on your router, make you know your phone number which is your account as well with QTEL.

usually for residences, it's: s44xxxxxx and password: 123 for the new installed lines. usually for the older ones, just: s4xxxxxxx.

sad true... this thomson router from Q-tel doesn't cover warranty/replacement even.. sick! my cheapo 3com granny router last 5 years shared with 5 people, till connection drop few months back and replaced with Belkin N series.. True Q-Tel/ADSL team can't resolved the issue called them several times for replacement, it just can't happen.

Don't trust this Thomson from Q-tel.. it is really PIA.. go for Linksys, D-link, Belkin, 3com dual antena.

i had the same problem on my net also before. complaint to 800-8000 bec. it's business line. QTEL Arrived and sort some things and informed me that the Internet Cable coming from the QTEL Main Phone Box outside going to my DSL Box is already OLD and probably damaged due to long time of use. so, we replaced with a new CAT6 cable and it was working fine since.

check your phone line using a house phone unit, if you hear some scratches, the QTEL Box underground got wet due to rain on the sewers. S*** happens there too.

then, if they replaced your routers three times four times with the same brand... the problem still exists then the router must be the problem here... then you tried to replace with other brands of routers? like linksys...

B2D, i tried that too.I tried every single trick in the book to have it fixed.i even made a new connection.i thought the problem might be my PC so i tried my other laptop, and my PC and my iphone it just disconnects.

Guys, what if its not the router/modem.What if there is a problem with the optical fibre line off land?

Smoke if you had tried for a hard reset with a pin on that tiny hole at the back of the modem and it didnt last long then WOTS the bloody use of trying it...:)

Instead i can put tat pin in ur hole....lol

try doing a hard reset with a pin on that tiny hole at the back of the modem. I did it a couple of times but it does not last long.

also if i try to go into the setup page (192.168.1.254) it asks me for a username and password for the router...the telephone number does not work at this.

smoke, i did a bandwidth test and it dropped from 100MB/s to 11Mb/sec.its very unstable.It shoots up to 24 and then 48Mb/sec and then it plunges down within seconds.I'll try calling Qtel.I've heard that the modem/router is very problematic.If its true then can i just use another router/modem instead of the one provided by Qtel?

Go into the modem setup page. click disconnect. click Connect. Quick fix but still shouldn't be needed.
