International License Renewal?
In Qatar US citizens can drive on an International License for 6 months. I'll be here for a total of 7 months.
I left the country in December, does that 6 month period start all over again when i leave and come back? I am leaving for good in March, so I'd rather not go through the hassle/$ of getting a Qatari License for just a few weeks.
What do you think?
If you enter on a visit visa, you can start your 6-month period over again when you enter. If you have a residence visa, you MUST have a local license, regardless of how long you have been or will be here. The 6-month period does not apply to residents.
Hi ,,
Actually not only in Qatar but all over the world ..any country that is mentioned on your int'l driving liscence should allow you to drive in it up to six months as long as you are a visitor .. so if you leave and come back you are a visitor all over again...
Now if your int'l liscense originates from a GCC country you can get it swapped easily in Qatar coz there are mutual dealings and rules in GCC.
You can always call the main Traffic Dept. "Muroor" (Madinat Khalifa) on this number 4890666 and check with them.. it is much better, when I fisrt arrived here everytime I asked about something like that I got a different answer! So it is better to get such information from the original source where there are no doubts..
Good Luck
Cheers
