I left my "Car"

Dear QLers,

I am seeking an advice for the ease of my mind. I left Doha 4 months ago in a very urgent reasons. Unfortunately I need not to comeback in Doha. In short I resigned to my company giving my 30 days advance notice and I left after the given period. Right away my account was held/freeze and my last pay, gratuity, etc. that my company gave to me was in my bank account because of the bank policy reason regarding my car loan with them.

The problem is, I parked  the car infront of the bank where I took the car loan and told them that I am surrendering my car to them when I was out of Doha. I am in debt because of this, but since the car is under the custody of the bank, is it right that I still need to pay the whole amount to the bank?

I can not sell the car during my last 30 days in Doha because the car is new as it was only 6 months used taken from showroom and no one wants to buy because of the amount I demand.

Thanks in advance to all of you who spend your time, share your thought, idea and advice. I really appreciate it.  God Bless You All.

Dear All,

If I pay the car in full, and I am not in Doha, Can I still get the car and send to me here in UAE? What is the procedure and who will process? The Bank? Thanks a lot.

didnt say anything wrong. U can come over here, transfer ur car to someone else  with a lower price and they will release ur account.

well ofcourse no one will buy it if you dont sell it cheaper than the market value.

If u took it on installements why r u even selling it??? give it back to the company.

u need a POA for someone from ur friends to sell it. r u planning to come back here, ever?

if yes, then sort it out.

btw, when u were giving the car back to the bank, somoene should have informed u about their procedures in this case.

anyway, the way it works once the loan is not paid, the car is being sold on auction and loan covered fromt hat...but...u r still there as blacklisted customer who did not settle his loan.

try to call the bank, or send them a letter with you story, saying that u want to settle the loan and ask them for some cooperation in this, in selling the car.

talk ot their manager of the car loan department. see what will happen.

which bank is it anyway?

Contact some of your friends here, and give them the authority to sell the car on your behalf (if it's not already in the custody of the bank, and just 'standing' there). Then, return the amount from the sale + whatever left for loan to the bank and they should open your account.

Irrysa,

Remeber, I can not sell the car because it is under their custody now. So there is no way I can sell it either to showroom or to individual. I should did that when I was in Doha, stupid I am.

Eve, no bank will chase u abroad for silly car loan...the cost of such thing would highly exceed the loan value in here.

Unless it's very big money, counted in millions, or big fraud...

there is one more thing u can do...just put it in any showroom for sale-they take around 1,000 com. for this-and pay this loan off.and don't be greedy in here, u will pay it off and sleep better at night with clear mind.

I don't think they will release your bank account until you pay off your loan or else everyone would do this.  Plus, I think due to this problem occuring here they have ways to reach out and sue you elsewhere.  I doubt its enough to give them back the car as you pointed out even if its sold it will not cover the loan.

to tell u frankly, lots of ppl leave the car at the airport and leave the country...

Boer, I like your thought, I supposed that will be the end of my burden if they will sell the car and I will pay the remaining. Or if as Irrysa said that I shoul forget and dont pay anymore.

Exactly Irrysa, They freeze my bank account, leaving all the money on that account & I left Doha. It is because i have an existing car loan. Thanks again to you.

jaie, no u don't have to pay anythign to the bank.

as long as u gave them the car back and bring customer for it, u don't pay anything else.

however, i assume in here that u have some kind of document/proof that u have left the car with the bank, right?

i couldn't understand from ur post one thing-do u mean that they frooze ur last salary and EOS benefit in the bank, because u did not pay ur car loan?

I am not after my money at all. What I want to know if I still need to pay the remaing balance? Or should I just ignore it and wait to be prosecuted or be catch by the bank. Thats all my worries.

Just forget it if you don't want to come back to Qatar. Actually you should have taken a Personal Loan of QR 400,000 and ran away to your country:)

to Qatar (or probably any GCC state), I would suggest paying the balance. The bank should dispose of the car and credit your account with the proceeds (less a fee for selling the car - maybe 10% of the selling price). You remain responsible for the rest of the loan.

Perhaps you can contact the car dealer to sell it for you.

Just some random thoughts!!

Well I would say it would be slightly cheeky to ask the bank to pay you back your money whilst not wanting to pay the bank theirs...

forfeited yes.... But how about the remaining balance of the car? Should I pay it ? Because the bank keep contacting me. Thanks to you.
