How can I strengthen the wireless connection

A friend of mine applied for mozaic package from Qtel which includes landline, internet, and few TV channels. Qtel will fix the connection for him this week. He lives in an apartment in one house. The house is splitted into 5 different apartments and he would like to share the internet connection with his neigbours. All the five apartments are within about 400 sqm area.

He will have the landline and internet modem in his apartment, and he is doubting if the internet signal will reach the other four apartments.

If it will not reach the other apartments or will hardly reach them with weak signal, what can he do to strenthen the signal?

I saw some devices in office buildings and I was told that they are meant for strengthening the signal of the wireless connection. Is that true? If yes, what is the name of that device, and where can he buy it from? Is it effective and worth? How much would that device cost?

I appreciate your help.

1Mb line is enough for regular usage, but if you are gonna watch videos online, then you hit a snag, especially when you share with 5 others.

* So try to upgrade to 2Mb for better connection.

yes if you are trying to cover a large space a regular router would play a sloppy role at some distance.

* You can replace the antenna of your router with a better powered antenna (about 8db antenna) it will cost about 80 to 120. but make sure you can remove your existing one and the new one fits...

* another way is you could extend your wifi network.. there are few ways to do this, setup a bridge connection, make a LAN, or use a booster.. can't say a price on this, coz everything depends on how large your space and the brands you buy.

If you need more info email me or call me, I can help setting up the network.. [email protected], 4414-2022 ask for 106 (Sat-Th 9am to 5 pm)

How about 2mb? and what is the difference if mosaic or regular internet connection? I thought its just a package which inclcudes landline, internet, and TV channels... If i disconnect the TV channels, then it will be okey?

1mbps of mosaic can't compensate if shared. I disconnect the mosaic & let alone internet run...err crawl. To tell you I'm the only one using it, but still kinda slow.

What is so funny? Isn't possible to share a wireless connection? As far as I know and what i have been told is that mozaic package includes landline, internet (ADSL / 1MB), and couple of TV channels.

Just buy an Accesspoints, put it somewhere in the middle configure it and works like a charm, but i'm using an old router i configured as an AccessPoint or Bridge, works perfect

Go to sofitel and ask for a signal booster from any of the shops.. Prices vary from 70-80 Riyals to 300 Riyals depending on the brand you buy & the strength.
