How about South Africa?

Imablue
By Imablue

May be you South African friends can help more!
How is life in South Africa? I am not talking about Jo’burg as it is really a dangerous place for living! But what about the other places like Pretoria or Cape Town?
Like, is it safe to live in these cities? For families? Children? Hospitals, Health Care & HIV? You know what I mean!
In general, where is the best part for living and business?

Thank you all

Kenyaqueen is so right. No one should make a decision on moving/not moving to another country based on someone else's experience.

I never listen to the advice of other people, you will just have to go there and e experiences it and as with any place you go find out about the surroundings that you will be living or visiting first. I have traveled around the world and people told me all kinds of things if I had of listen to them I would not have stories to tell my kids and grand children. Before I went to china a white man told me that I should not go because the chinese do not like black people and treat them very bad there. Well, it is simply not true. I was adored when I went to china. Many people stopped and wanted to know who I was or just to say hello to me. Some place I went they have never met a black person but yet they invited me into their homes, shook my hand and hugged me good bye- it was priceless. There is crime all over the world, if you really look into it the united states is one of the most dangerous places to live. And the majority of the people are not black there. In my opinion the crime your are talking about in south africa is not much different than the crime here in north america I see the same things happening here. Car windows get smashed, cars get stolen, women get rapped, people get robber, people get aids. Only difference is south africa is dominated by black people, I might add black people that have been working/slaving for the very folk that are leaving that country. By the way about a couple of years ago there was a white south african couple who moved back to the states after 40, they were murdered about 1 month after returning, so gos to show you they just may have been safer in SA.

Go, but be safe

I am always excited to go to sleep! In anticipation of the new experience I will find awaiting me.

LOL, MD.

Imablue, read my comments and read marco.julius' comments.

Yes, crime there is bad but there are so many good things about the country. Every country has good and bad things about them. South Africa is not an exception.

I am not against South Africa fatcat! I know you are a South African and you love your country! And I am not a South African and trying to get some information as I may shift to RSA in a near future!

But unfortunately see what I am hearing! These points are what you South Africans say not me!

Why are you so biased and against South Africa? If you don't like it, don't go there, simple.

By Imablue• 28 Sep 2008 09:03

So, why “on daily basis” 120 people are leaving RSA for good? Don’t tell me whites! Even other South Africans who I meet daily and are not WHITE and they have left their country due to the crime rate! And they say they never dare to go back to their country!

Marco! Yes! You also may be right. RSA will never be second Zimbabwe as Zimbabweans are just poor people looking for some shelter but South Africa is full criminals!

I would just like to put the record straight to all the people who have never been to RSA but have alot of comments about it, if you have not been there or seen and experienced RSA then don't comment. There is crime everywhere in the world and if you vigilint of your surroundings you will be ok. Like they say if you look for trouble you will find it. Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and it also very safe, Jo'burg is not so safe but you can live there. At least we don't have suicide bombers or crazy drivers. As for the racism part. White people should not complain as they lived a good life when there was apartheid and now all of a sudden when they are treated equally things are bad and they hate RSA?Who is racist now? Everyine struggle in RSA jobwise so they must stop painting the picture like RSA was only created fir them and when things don't go there way they want to be the victims.

RSA will never be like Zimbabwe. Only stupid people would think that.

SA, like much of Africa is a huge mess and it's very dangerous if you happen to be white. Just ask any white South African working in Qatar.

ste, that is not what he said. When asked if he knew if the lady was HIV positive and what did he do to prvent contracting it he replied that he had a shower. Yes, this is ludicrous but he did not say that if you take a shower after sex you won't get AIDS.

He was equited of all the rape charges, let me remind you.

No, I'm not a supporter of his, not in the least. But don't forget South Africa is still a very young democracy. The ANC has done a lot of good to the country.

The country's Vice President and leader of the governing ANC party, Jacob Zuma, is a rapist who has publicly stated that if you have a shower after sex you wont get AIDS.

This may give you some idea of the level of intelligence/morality the country enjoys in it's highest offices.

Yes, South Africa is dangerous. But it doesn't prevent people from living normal lives. There's a good health care system (if you're willing to pay for it), good schools, good jobs, competent people.

There is racism, just like there is racism all over the world. I don't believe crimes are racially motivated, though, since all races are victims of crime over there.

You just need to be careful over there and don't put yourself in situations that can lead to disaster. For example, you don't walk over there, you drive everywhere. Especially if you are a female. You don't wear lots of jewelry either. And you make sure you insure your possessions properly.

because the policing's better, being that its SA's biggest tourist attractions. Oh and for some titbit news - Prince Harry was mugged in Lesotho a while back - they stole his cellphone and when the security detail eventually find the thief and was asked if he know this prince he stole from. He didn't even know who he was and reluctantly gave Harry's cellphone back to the security guys - csi.

I love S.a hey! I was there for a short while last year.. L-o-v-e-d it! I think the country is beautiful but there is no doubt that a lot of residents are moving out due to the rate of crimes occuring everyday! Well, JHB cbd is something else. Now that place is scary IMO.

My parents have lived 7 years in South Africa, Cape Town without incident.

I have been three times and always felt perfectly safe...

I think some people exaggerate the threat to justify their own racism.

ooops i am getting a bit angry now.

and I didn't feel safe in Durban...Figure when the bellboy tells you when he takes you to your hotel room to not wear any jewelry or carry a purse, its pretty bad. I also know from a local that if you are driving a car, they smash and grab things from your car if you stop at a red light. BUT...that being said...I also went up to the mountains and I would go back there in a heartbeat...also Krueger park...

Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,and the eyesight to tell the difference.

scared the bejesus outta me as the bell boys warned you not to wear any jewelry or take purses if you were going out anywhere...such a shame as it was really pretty there....but we did go to a bar called Cool Runnings..which I found out the next morning, I was lucky to still have my throat intact...
