I would surmise that the OP is a cat hoarder (or at least one in the preliminary stages) who believes he is doing something good but actually harming the animals he collects because he cannot spay/neuter them, keep vaccinations and vet checkups up to date.

If you love your cat, find another option or better yet take it with you.

Hi , since there is a big cat discussion going on here , can anyone please tell me if there is a place or people here who takes care of pets while their owners are away?? ..i will be leaving town for 2 weeks end of this month and i desperately need someone who is good with pets to keep my cat ( except for the 13 yr old kid who seems to be strangely obsessed wit cats) ...she is a well trained cat and doesnt require a lot of work.

Last month I found a kitten in the street. He didn't stop crying. When I took him to the vet we realized he was burnt in many parts of his body. I already had another cat and she was furious with the new arrival. And also an alergic person in the family. So, it was a tough situation but, so far, we are surviving and the kitten is now slepping by the computer while I write this words.

Salman sajid when i got my cat i spend more then 2000 on (one) cat.. now i have 2 cats it costs more then 400 per month litter, dry food, wet food, shampoo, treats (good food not the cheap one)then if ur cat gets sick then may be it would not be so good for u and for the cat and i m sure u dint kept then in ur house like in bed rooms 12 kitts its not easy and ur just 13 i m sure u cant take care of then all u just give them food and milk i m right? yes? its not easy to take care and simply rehome them to ur friends who will keep then out side in hot i m sure ur parents are also not allowing u to keep cats.look i just want to tell u that hare i know allot of people love there pets more then there own self if think thay dont have money thay wont eat food but thay will give food to there pets eg cats, dogs, rats etc so bro just dont be sad i and others just wana help.

It is clear that you are not a responsible cat owner. How are you expecting to pay for 12 sets of neutering and vaccinations and vet care? Do you know how much that costs? The first thing you have to do with a new cat is get it checked out, neutered and vaccinated:

Neutering: QR300 minimum

Vaccination: QR540

Deworming/Health Check: QR150

Total: Approx QR1,000 per cat

12 cats: QR12,000

Your parents are happy with that cost? I highly doubt it. And that's not including all the food, litter, toys, collars, ID tags, micro-chips and emergency vet treatment that will be needed as well.

Just because you've taken them off the street doesn't mean they have a good home. If you don't have them all fully vaccinated and one of the gets sick, they will all get sick, and if you don't get them vet treatment, some diseases can kill them.

Actually it is our problem. Owners of unneutered cats cost those of us involved in Shelters and vet clinics money, we are the ones who pay the bills for all of the strays who are found starving or hit by cars.

I think it is safe to say that both Chelsea and Marycatherine will have spent literally thousands out of their own pockets picking up the pieces from immature and irresponsible people who want to own, breed and give kittens as presents and I bet it is safe to say that we all have the casualties of people's whims living in our houses and gardens right now. We are also the same people who will jolly well pack up the same cats and pay (a concept lost on many Doha people) when we leave and take their cats with them, not dump them on the street or place an ad saying lovely cat needs rehoming because owners leaving the country. I would no more leave my cats or dogs behind than my husband. Can you really say the same. Oh no, that's right, you can't because you are not even old enough to FLY alone, let alone make a decision about whether to take the hundred plus cats you will end up with to your new country.

And were you potty trained at 3 years? Sorry, your argument is juvenile as are the majority of your posts here. Grow up. Be responsible, ethically, morally, financially, and personally. If you fail in any of these, just wait until you grow into it or resign yourself to the sidelines.

I agree with Chelsea. I need some advice on the kitten I found last week. I wish I could keep it but it would just be irresponsible of me to have 3 cats when I can only take care of two, add to that the fact that I will soon be moving to a flat. Of course I will help towards to cost of treatment and so on. Let me know, i just can't keep it.

By Chelsea• 21 Oct 2009 22:06

Unfortunately we only rehome animals to people over 18 and NEVER rehome them as "gifts" for other people - relatives or not!!

Hmm.. at 13 he should know what neutering is if he's such a huge lover of cats. 2 seconds on google will tell you everything you need to know :D

My concern is if he likes having so many cats around, his plan is to breed them so he can constantly be surrounded by kittens - in which case QAWS will get a phone call from his parents in about 6 months time asking us to take 20+ cats away!! He says in his last comment that he's looking for a female for his male cat.

Either way I really wouldn't recommend anyone giving a child an un-neutered cat.

Chelsea just realised Sajid is just a 13 yo kid, who wants a cat for his little brother. Sajid, you need to ask your parents to go to the animal shelter or any vet in Doha, they will surely have a cat that needs a home. I cannot give you the stray kitten I found, because you are too young.

I am still looking for a home for the tiny 3 week old cat I found in the street.

By Chelsea• 20 Oct 2009 23:06

You didn't answer my question - are your cats neutered? You can't afford to have an un-neutered male and female living in the same house.

But are your cats spayed/neutered in order to prevent more kittens being added to the cat overpopulation?

Responsible pet owners, which you seem to want to be, make sure that their pets don't add to the cat overpopulation problem.

... people want male and female persians.... cross them, sell them to that awful pet market in Souq Waqif... it breaks my heart visiting it and I just can't get over it for days, but my daughter loves to go and see the rabbits. My poor girl doesn't understand yet that sprayed coloured rabbits are not normally like that (in colour).

Obvious what is happening here with the cats, right? GET A LIFE!!! The Veterinary Surgery had the chance to make quite a bit of money by selling a pure British Blue breed cat. They never even considered a different option from having it adopted into a good home.

sorry Salman but you have indicated in previous posts that $$ is an issue for you. Cats are not free. They need to be spayed/neutered, get yearly vaccinations and annual checkups. 1 cat costs about 700 - 1000QAR per year minimum not including food, toys, grooming, etc. How much are you (or more properly, your parents) willing to pay for your pets? If you/they are not prepared to be financially responsible, then don't get any more. It's not fair, ethical or the morally responsible thing to do.

Same person asking the same question as a few weeks ago. Are you sure you don't work in a lab? Most people in Doha wouldn't advertise for a cat unless it was a cute pedigree "cute" Persian or rare breed, you are either a very kind and genuine person or there is a very sinister reason behind your request. I am not judging you just remembering a similar situation we had at the vets clinic last year.
