Electric Voltage supply in Doha
By Shaikh_007 •
Hi all,
I am moving to Doha soon from Canada, and wanted to bring some kitchen appliances from Canada, here in Canada it is 110V 60Htz available in households so are my appliances, can someone guide me as what is the rating available generally in Doha, is there any shop/store where I can purchase "Step Down" from 220V to 110V regulators and what is the price range.
Any information in this regard will help me alot
Regards
We bought our transformers in Canada, but you can buy the same ones here. Not sure if there is a price difference or not.
The NTSC TV will not work here, as the system here is PAL, also our stereo reciever will not work here either, due to the different Hertz (cycles) on the electrical system. Here it is 50Hz, in North America it is 60Hz.
If you check on the back of your stereo it will say waht electrical system it will work with, if it shows 50 - 60 Hz, you will be ok, just make sure the voltage is correct.
The 46" Sony is the same price here as it was in Calgary (last fall, I am surprised that it is not multi system though...
NTSC only: a single system TV, typical of north america.
STRONGLY NOT ADVISABLE.
cost of shipping + convertes + risk of miss use will be much a burden for such items.
I have a Sony Bravia LCD 46" Tv and Bose AM10 Sound System I have a question regarding the TV System in Qatar my Tv is NTSC only and its 110 and my sound system is 110 too, wondering if I can bring these too here as I wont get these cheap in Qatar I spent around CAD$3500 on tthis. Any suggestions or advise is appriciated.
Thanks everyone for the feedback, Hey Hokey Pokey, where did you buy the transformer from, Doha or Canada?
This is complicated....
We brought our 110 volt appliances and have not had a problem. We run a 500 watt step down transformer. The blender, paper shredder, DVD player, Wii all work well off the transformer. The only appliance that we had a problem with is the electric carving knife, it will get warm if you use it for a while, 4 to 5 minutes. The only 220 volt appliances we bought were a toaster and coffee maker.
For your floor and table lamps, you can get 220 volt bulbs that fit and then either change the plug to fit the wall spocket, or just buy an adapter, no need to replace any lamps.
The only item we could not run was a Sony stereo recieiver, it gives an erro message that is due to the different fequency.
If you are planning to bring just very few of them its ok. Otherwise its not adviced to have 110V electric appliances as you would need to buy converters.
Regards,
220v 50Hz. Better to leave them at home and buy out here - they are cheap enough.
Did you Google it first?
I wouldn't bring 110v kitchen appliances.
