Driving In Round Abouts

Dear Qlers,

Could any body explain me how to make U-turn in a 2 lane round about as i studied in m y driving school while in theory classes and in the theory book, I have to drive in the first lane to enter the round about and have to exit in the same first lane. But the Instructor is saying that to enter in first lane and exit in the second lane.

Which is correct ???

sirvine,

go back to wikipedia now!...there is an accident on that animation. :D

a cow entered at R/A witout using his indicator! :D

anyway! as for mustafah...passing on actual drive test will depend also in the mood of the policeman beside you. even if you do it all correctly, if he didnt like you....still.....sorry! try again next week! :D

Sounds like a debate! If your doing a U-turn at a roundabout you always (should) use the innermost lane. The same when your turning left. One of the reasons there are so many accidents here is people cannot use a roundabout. People driving in the innermost lane going right and people in the outer lane going left - chaos!

For big cars esp. LC enter any lane aggressively and everybody will slow down for you :)

For small cars you have to take cover of big ones but only in CENTER lane. If you are on rightmost lane and want to go LEFT then you're creating recipe for disaster. Another most important thing is SPEED. Never move very slow while ENTERING or LEAVING r/a. It's the speed that mostly causes accident esp when you are planning an unnatural turn e.g. entering right most lane to go left !

Here's a good animation on the Wikipedia page for a 3 lane roundabout.

Khor, yes, I agree that you should stay way clear of trucks on roundabouts but otherwise you should stick to the lane advice given in the links. Trucks usually are not able to stick to one lane.

Qatar makes us all bad drivers because the majority of people do not obey or are not aware of the rules of the road. It makes you a good defensive driver though and aware of whatever crazy things may happen.

sirvine,

just a piece of reminder...never enter in R/A at the same time or drive side by side with buses and trucks, they always take 1-1/4 of lanes when turning because it's a long and wide vehicle.

and...if i'm wrong on exit at 2nd lane, i may not have this DL.

Wow, you are amazingly wrong. This site give a proper example of how to use a 2 lane roundabout when driving on the right.

No wonder there are so many accidents in Doha. Nobody knows how to use a roundabout. I was almost wiped out by a bus in Dukhan this morning. Looks like I have my answer why.

2-lanes R/A, U-turn: position in 1st lane, use left indicator.

exit on 2-lanes R/A will depend on actual situations.

you can't exit on the 2nd lane when there is a car alongside with you. you will collide for sure.

so, exit on 1st or 2nd lane are both correct.

Depends what car you drive, and what color your skin is. That seems to ultimately determine how you should use a roundabout.
