Digital Camera for a Non Professional

By Qatarman

I once again seek the help of QL members before I burn a hole in my pocket.I am looking for a digital camera which can be used with ease by a non camera professional.Until recently I owed a Sony P 150 7.1 Mega pixel but was not very happy with the results.

What are your comments on Canon etc.Any suggestions where I can buy it cheaper..

All comments would be appreciated!

the questions posed by "That Guy" are an eye opener and a soul searcher..I will try to reply to the queries to the best of my abilities...

1. do you want it as a hobby or just for snapping shot of the family

A1) I want to develop it as a hobby,eventually..at present i am looking at capturing the growth of my 1 year old daughter, who hops around the house all the time

2. do you mind carrying around something the size of a small purse or do you just want something you can throw in your pocket

A2) In the past I have used some bigger cameras and realized that due to their size,I was not able to carry them around hence could not click as much as I wanted.Hence a smaller camera would fit the bill.

3. do you know anything about shutter speeds, ISO's, 'blue hour' or photo composition

A3) I know a bit about ISO but my SONY camera used to take care of that automatically hence I did not bother much about it.

4. do you plan on spending time in post editing

A4) I would love to  that but again I am no good when it comes to Adobe just use the simple piccasa when it comes to editing....no good huh?

5. whats your price range

A5) Can rise to 1500 QR.Money is the solution always I guess..:-(

honestly i agree with vignale on this...

there are alot of things to consider...

this is a list of things i think people should think about when buying a camera

1. do you want it as a hobby or just for snapping shot of the family

2. do you mind carrying around something the size of a small purse or do you just want something you can throw in your pocket

3. do you know anything about shutter speeds, ISO's, 'blue hour' or photo composition

4. do you plan on spending time in post editing

5. whats your price range

after you answer those questions... i think i can tell you what camera you should get...

also... keep in mind... taking pictures has a hobby... is as addicting as crack... hahahahahahaha and thats why i love it

Depends really about what you want from a Camrea - is size and Weight important ?

Or is photo Quality the most important ?

What is your budget ?

Personally I would have gone for a DSLR, they are pretty easy to use these day's  and Picture Quality is much better than Compact cameras.

I prefer the canon. It is not as slim as the sony but the picture quality is waay better. If thats what you want then look no further.

You do pay a premium for the Canon though.

Prices in dubai are around QR 150 to QR 200 cheaper than out here else look at Carrefour, Qatar to pick it up.
