I need to do a presentation on ‘Cultural Diversity at work place’. Can you all please share your thoughts? I am sure I can get some valid points as we have members from different culture.
Actually it was not meant for the nationals only. The topic was how to cope up with the cultural differences in a multi-cultural work place. This was not a cultural Diversity class. It was part of a training I attended. Unfortunately 18 out of 22 attendees were Qataris.
In the Cultural diversity classes we attended there were no Qataris. Now don't you think its odd that we go to these classes and yet there are no Qataris there.
In a modern 21st century world should there not be a few locals there to gain an insight into what is and isn't acceptable in the modern western world.
So my question really is, if you were teaching a cultural awareness class to Qataris what would be the main do's and dont's that you would teach them ?
You can find an interesting link to an existing presentation. You can tailor it for your needs. It's not exactly the format I personally would use, but the information is still valuable.
I think it has to do with the cultural differences in workplace basically the body Language/ etiquette of different cultures, their habits etc.
one classic example is sitting wiht your legs put cross resting on each other is the custom in middleast but in middleeast its not auspicious they think the person is not open and prefer to sit with legs apart.. same way looking directly into the eyes while conversing also has different meaning in diffrent cultures..
Again other point can be related to a.dressing, b. dining styles
c. cuisine, d.socialising, e.way of greeting people etc

lol ... right!
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
Diversity is good because it gives different perspective on things and teaches us respect and tolerance and sometimes opens up our mind too
